I dont think i have a chance what do you think:
SAT I 1450 (740M, 710V)
SAT II 660 Writ. 740 IIC 790 US Hist
3.8 GPA UW 25/500
EC’s decent: President/founder of 2 clubs: JSA and Freedom’s Answer
NHS, CSF, Varsity Baseball, Rotary Interact, Reading Volunteer, 350+ Hours comm. service, 200 @ hospital
attended 2 summer programs: JSA and FTE

If you have a brilliant essay and very good recommendations you still have a shot.

umm i dont think a brilliant essay will be important, just a good essay. I’d say that you have a good shot even without the brilliant essay

wait, you have a really good shot…

I think that you will get in…

And dont listen to PanzerRon.

FTE? i went to that!!! ![]()
which one? and where?

i won’t predict your chances, but you have no shot if you don’t apply…expect the worst, hope for the best

just hope you don’t get an admissions officer like Rachel Toor, author of Admissions Confidential. She wrote about how much she despised seeing JSA (the club, not the summer school) on applications…

I went to JSA at Stanford a long time ago though, it was a lot of fun.

I hope that you have a shot. Because all of your stats are one step ahead of mine. 1370->1450 (but not including the Jan), 640->660, 690->740, 760->790, 3.65->3.8, 17/242->25/500. Did you apply this year, or will you next year?

It seems that I have acquired a stalker in balac. Posting after me in three threads already, always saying negative things. Dude, what I said is true; essays and recs play a big part in the admissions process. You can’t just say that he will get in, Duke is a difficult school to get into.

Look at his ECs it seems good. Maybe essay plays a role but recs i dont think so. But if recs DO play a big role than I am sure that I am in everywhere.
P.S. I am not stalking you, maybe!?

We all know that essays and recs play a big part in getting admitted, but with his stats, he won’t need “brilliant” essays and very good recs. He will just need good essays and recs to say that he has a shot. With great essays, he has a great shot. You made it seem like without “brilliant essays and very good recs” then he won’t stand a chance at all.

That is what i was trying to say

The original poster said that he doesn’t think he has a shot. I kinda meant that as long as you have the excellent essays and recs you stand a chance; with this I can make him concentrate on his essay and not just slack off. And nothing is ever guaranteed, you shouldn’t just say “I think you will get in”; imagine the disappointment if he/she doesn’t. You guys look too much into things

Now that the deadline has passed he cant work on his essays

Yep, and I really don’t want to worry about college application and admissions anymore. I can’t enjoy my well-deserved holiday if I am brought back to posting on this forum all the time. :-)

Amen to that
