Any situations where students are not required to take SATs?

Are there any schools that do not require SAT scores from applicants? Or are there any situations where a student does not need to take the SATs at schools that normally require SATs from all applicants?

For ex, if the applicant is a 40-year old student who just graduated high school in, say, Nigeria, are there exceptions that can be made where the student can be considered for admissions without an SAT score?

There are a number of schools that take ACT scores instead but aside from that I don’t really know much else about it.

I would think that a more unconventional applicant would be benefited by submitting traditional measures of academic success, like standardized test scores.

I think you’ll need to mail the corresponding admissions office and discuss the case. I advise you to check the corresponding college admissions website before you email them.

There are a growing number of test optional schools

For schools that require SAT’s, I doubt your are going to get an individual waiver. What would justify that?

As noted there are test optional colleges that do not require test scores. Also, many (but definitely not all) colleges that require test scores recognize an exception for students applying from within countries where the student cannot take the SAT, which appears to include Nigeria, but you need to check with each college to determine if there is an exception (usually it can be found in the international section for admission on a college’s website; one example is Yale see: <a href=“Applying to Yale as an International Student | Yale College Undergraduate Admissions”>Applying to Yale as an International Student | Yale College Undergraduate Admissions).

yes, most conservatories don’t require SAT scores. If you are talented in music, just go and apply
