Just curious, again! My son is the only kid ever admitted to Stanford from his 750-student HS in the midwest. What about you?

If you weren’t the only one, how many have been admitted, or how many per year and what size HS do you come from?

First to be admitted in ten, first to go in 15. Kind of strange because we have a handful of ives every year, harvard 4 years ago, ranked top 100. I guess us easterners don’t apply west.

First in twelve years, high school has ~2000 students.

first in 3 years, but the one 3 years ago was the first in probably 15 years

1st in 3 years, only one from my hs this year. There was a slight deluge a few years back, I think it was two and/or three 2003, two 2004, three in 2005 and then nothing till 2008. Before Class of 2003, I have no idea but I’m thinking there wasn’t much either. Pretty good for a school whose first graduating class was in '95.

2 years ago the first from our school was accepted, but then decided to go to the Naval Academy. Hopefully I’ll be the first to matriculate next year =]

Many graduates of my school were graduate students at Stanford, but I think I’m the first or the first in a long while for undergraduate.

Fun. Are we all going to AW?

Not me. Impractical.

My son’s not going to AW because he’s made his decision and he doesn’t want to get behind at school – really! He figures he’ll be there for 4 years and already knows he loves it.

Thanks to those who posted. Since my son is the only Stanford admit ever at his HS (no one has ever even gone to an Ivy from there, although a few have gone to top schools), it’s a pretty big deal for our town. I have read on other threads in amazement about schools where quite a few kids get into top schools. I wish you all a wonderful Stanford experience.

Yes, my son is also the first student at his HS to ever gain admission to Stanford. One student got into MIT a couple of years ago, and a classmate of my son’s is deciding between Yale and Columbia. Otherwise, not many selective school apps. This is a suburban middle class community in the PNW, graduating class of 562.

BTW, my son’s not going to AW…he just went to Stanford this week with his HS choir tour (mainly to SFO) and got to tour campus and sing at Mem Church…pretty cool timing, as the trip was planned last school year. And, pretty cool to be able to check out the campus with his friends! He called and said there was no question…he’s accepting when he gets home. He said it was spectacular. I’m thrilled for him, yet I miss him already!! Ack!

i suppose. Still, should be loads of fun.

Job=Mom: Congrats to your son on his admission and trip to Stanford! It must have been quite the experience for him to sing at one of the most beautiful churches in the world. The whole place is definitely spectacular. We will be missing our son enormously next fall, too.

First one to be outright admitted…one girl got in off the waitlist 5 yrs ago…

Congrats to all! To the “first folks” from their schools and otherwise…

Gladmom: Maybe we should start a “missing our kids in college” support group! :)

Job=Mom: Let’s definitely do that after we drop them off in September. I’m gonna need it.

Ya vol !!! Or should I say, uff da as they say here in the PNW!!? :)

At least 5 or 6 every year from my school in Singapore.

I’m the only one from my school who was accepted. I think the last person to go to Stanford graduated like six years ago…
