Any suggestions on where to stay in Prague and London?

Traveling this summer to both, from southern France. First time to Prague for both H and I. First time to London for H but 3rd time for me.

Have any of you stayed in great, or, places to avoid. We would like breakfast included and airport transportation available. Yes I have been looking up places, but thought I’d ask my worldly ccer’s for their input.

Also suggestions of what not to miss in each city, especially Prague. We have 2 1/2 - 3 days n each city.

We stayed at Residence Agnes in Prague and had a wonderful time. Breakfast was included and we arranged for airport transportation in advance. It was well located and the hosts were lovely.

We stayed in a nondescript hotel in London two times ago and an airbnb last time. No real recommendations to make but I’m sure others will chime in.

Sounds like a great trip!

I just read through my correspondence and Residence Agnes included airport transportation. It was pick up only; I don’t recall that it included transportation back to the airport. This was also in 2016 so no idea if it’s still offered.

We stayed here in Prague:

The service was great as was the daily breakfast buffet. There are two sister properties in Prague as well at a higher price point:

In London, we stayed in an apartment with a longer minimum than you are looking for.

What is your budget for London? So many available options. What do you plan on seeing? Any preference for area of the city? Flying in? Which airport? Pretty sure airport transportation through a London hotel will be quite high. Are you comfortable with taxi picked up at airport or would you prefer public transport - the Heathrow Express to Paddington is quite convenient and easy. If you buy tickets in advance, the cost can be quite low depending on how many months out you purchase. Easy to do on-line.

In Prague, we stayed at the Hotel Kampa Garden, which was inexpensive and conveniently located. Amazing breakfast. (This is several years back, so you’d want to check recent reviews.) We did have airport transfers, which I believe were through the hotel.

In London, there are many hotels near Paddington Station, which houses several Tube lines. That area also has tons of restaurants and is a short walk to Hyde Park/Kensington Gardens. Breakfast is usually included. Here, I’d skip the taxi and just take the Heathrow Express, which drops you from the terminal right into Paddington.

I liked The Chesterfield Mayfair in London, made up of 3 former residences dating back 300 years. Lots of history, great location in Mayfair within easy walking distance of numerous, restaurants, pubs, the tube, Buckingham Palace, St. James Palace, Hyde Park, Green Park, Oxford Street, and more. Not overly expensive for London (low $200s?), and rated #15 of over 1K hotels in London on TripAdvisor, and 5 stars from over 3K reviews. Also well known for its afternoon tea - if you’re into that sort of thing.

I would not recommend where I stayed in Prague, so I’ll leave that to others. :-/

In London, we stayed in Leicester Square at the Radisson which was right in the thick of things and 1 block from the Big Red Bus you can use to get yourself all around London, hopping on and off. It was a great place to stay and I am thinking of going back there again this summer.

“Also well known for its afternoon tea - if you’re into that sort of thing.”

Who’s not into that sort of thing? Yummo.

Last time we were in London (2015) we stayed at the Holiday Inn in Kennsington. We were right around the corner from the Gloucester Road tube station. We have also stayed at the Millennium Gloucester which is also in the same area. Next month when we are in London we are staying at the Strand Palace Hotel which my H has stayed in before while on business and he liked the location.

Most of the museums in London are free and tend to be very crowded during summer.

In theory, I love the afternoon tea. In practice, it’s often too much caffeine and calorie for me. How do you do it? Just stop at a cup and a small piece?

There is herbal tea if you don’t want caffeine and for me it replaces a meal - or two, actually. Kind of like Linner or Dunch.

We stayed at the St. Ermine Hotel when we were there in October. It was just lovely. It is very close to Westminster Abbey, the House of Parliament and Big Ben (although Big Ben is undergoing renovations, so it is covered in scaffold and doesn’t chime). It is part of the Marriott’s Autograph Collection, so you can use or earn points. There is a lovely breakfast buffet and of course you can get tea!!

Love the suggestions. Keep them coming. For those of you who have been to Prague, what is a must see?

@morrismm - H and I are headed to Prague next month as the second part of our vacation to Europe. We are also going to Ireland and have a couple of days in London at the end. Some of the places we are thinking about seeing while in Prague are the Castle, the Charles Street Bridge, Old Town Square, Saint Vitus Cathedral, National Museum, National Technical Museum, National Gallery and the Museum of Communism. We would also like to take a day trip somewhere, but haven’t tied that down yet. I would also love to hear suggestions on what people liked when they visited Prague.

We stayed in an apartment in Prague steps from the Charles bridge on the castle side. I don’t see it listed on Airbnb any longer. It was on a busy road but it was quiet in the apartment. We liked our location. The owner of the apartment arranged a taxi for us from the airport. We also stayed at the Intercontinental which while it isn’t beautiful from the outside was very nice inside and in a good location. The hotel portion was prior to a river cruise with extended family. I arranged my kids airport transfer through a car service I found on Trip Advisor. This also worked well.
We wandered and explored for a few days prior to the organized portion of our trip. Attended a classical music concert in an old church. We did a great day trip to Terezin with a private guide. It’s expensive if you are just 2 people but we were 7 and it was a incredible experience. We also did a walking tour of the Jewish area.
My FIL spent his early childhood in Czechoslovakia and we hired a guide who took us for the day to his childhood town of Bruno. If by chance you pass through Bruno the Glass House is with a visit. Our guide was smart, warm and knowledgeable and just a charming personality. She also does tours in Prague. If interested I can PM her information.

In Prague, besides the usual downtown tourist spots, don’t miss Vysehrad and take a stroll in Mala Strana.

In Prague we have stayed at the K & K Central, located right near the Powder Tower. Good location as easy walking distance to all or to tram stop to go up to Prague Castle. Near the Castle there is also an amazing monastery with an incredible library that you can view. The hotel had great buffet breakfast, lovely room, spotlessly clean, helpful front desk as they arranged shuttle van to airport. We had arrived in Prague by train from Vienna.

For us the Jewish Quarter was a must and we had an outstanding guide. We did a day trip to Theresenstadt,… very moving and the guide was very informative and helpful

For London, first time was for business trip for DH and we stayed at at Hilton by Paddington Station which is a good location as the train from Heathrow stops right there. Convenient location, lots of restaurants and the tube right there.
