I posted a similar thread a few months ago, but I feel like I didn’t really get a solid response.
I am coming from a CC and looking to graduate in all likelihood as the top student there with a 4.0 and three degrees plus a ton of extracurricular and service projects.
Of the top students the past 3 years, 2 went to Ivy league institutions using the JKC. One was accepted to a prestigious private christian institution outside the Ivy’s on full scholarship.
I have very similar stats and ec’s (if not stronger) but my parents income places me just outside the JKC range (I talked to them and they said no exceptions). The private school the other student went to as a homosexual lifestyle clause that makes me extremely anxious as I am gay and open.
I have already talked to my transfer advisor and he seemed to draw the same conclusions that I did, but it seems like I am missing something that just because of my parents income and my sexual orientation that I may be exempt from the main opportunities afforded to others.
I have been told that I could just apply to top schools and then see if Fin aid would help, but I sincerely doubt that at 115k Income that I would receive much help.
Before anyone asks why my parents can’t help or haven’t saved any for me, I have a sibling with a serious disability (Complete cerebal palse) that has impaired us big time financially. I have saved a measly 5k on my own but that is not going to do much at all in any type of tuition cost.
I have worked hard, gotten great grades, volunteered, have a job outside of school and genuinely care about my education. I honestly am at a loss of what to do, I could go to my local college but it is pretty anemic in terms of rating or go into massive amounts of debt, but it just seems unfair (No, I don’t need a lecture about how the world works).
