any tips for SAT reading? HELP!!!

i took the Oct SAT and got 650 for CR.
i wanna ask if there are any tips that can help me.
my main problem is that i can’t finish it on time since i take so much time to familiarise myself with the context, especially for the 2-long-passage part.
What should I do? Plz HELP~~~~~~!!!

Try reading the questions first, and doing the ones that require only like 5-10 lines of reading first. This way you’re still answering questions, and familiarizing yourself with parts of the passage. It worked for me, give it a try

usually the first sentence completion are very easy, and therefor your first instinct is almost always right. spend less time on the first part of the section and more on the passages. also actively read and underline the text, it will help a lot if you spend to much time reading because you’ll spend less time trying to familiarize yourself with the text and more time answering the questions after the passage.

i have heard people who think it useful to annotate for the line-reference question but it doesn’t work to me…especially when i use 3-min to mark all the lines but it turns out that i must know the thrust of the whole passage beeforr i answer it…
why can’t i find it useful :(??
also i am an international student, which should be the main reason for my difficulty of acquiant myself in the passage in a rather short period of time, especially the novels.

Read questions first.

Helped me improve from a 730 to an 800.

Read the ?'s first!

anymore details for ‘read the questin first’
it doesn’t work to me since the options in questions make me even more perplexed before i grasp what the passage’s motif is

Lots of questions only require like 5 lines of reading to answer correctly. Vocab questions, questions with specific line references, etc. I complete all of these first, and read a few lines above and a few lines below the target area. This way, I get context about the passage and am able to answer questions at the same time. Once I’ve completed these, I go to the “bigger picture” questions. Usually I can answer some of these with little need to look back at the passage. For ones that do require looking back, I simply read the sections that I haven’t already covered from the other questions. Check out “critical reading study guide” on amazon if you want. That’s where I got this strategy from

I had the same problem as you and then I started to answer the questions as I go! When i go through the section, I leave any main idea questions for last and answer all other questions as I read, since the questions are in the same order as the passage text. Otherwise, if you read and then answer questions, you will be rereading the passage and thus, wasting precious time!
Good luck!!
