<p>I want a good good education at a reputable school. Because of my college record at an art school, in a major that I found out wasn’t for me, my grades arent as strong to transfer into top 25 schools with college stats alone. are there any schools that give brownie points for bringing in diversity. </p>

<p>I’m slightly frustrated because I feel as though had I been transferring from a community college, managing a 3.5+ wouldn’t be hard, well at least in Los Angeles Community Colleges it wouldn’t be.</p>
<p>Affirmative action/diversity hooks can help at competitive schools, but it is doubtful that they will mitigate serious deficiencies in your college GPA or high school transcript (I assume you’re a freshman, in which case your high school record is of prime importance alongside your college work). That said, as a fellow gay Hispanic male looking to transfer, why not apply to several top schools and have a few safeties in case? Lots to gain and little to lose.</p>
<p>well my high school record was extremely strong. my college record is where it went down. i’m in junior standing. i was pursuing a bfa, so a lot of the classes i was taking were art studio related, and that’s where i got low grades in. in my liberal art classes such as english and other social sciences i got higher grades in.</p>
<p>You could likely incorporate the reasons you got such low grades into why you want to attend university X. You found out that your real passion was in formulating beautiful ideas, and not in making beautiful art (obviously thats a bit of hyperbole, but it gives you an idea). This may be one avenue to down-play those grades. There are some LAC that are very homogenous racially, and you would be likely to get a larger boost in your admission chances from such schools (I’m not sure at which schools being from the West Coast would add geographic diversity, if it would at all). Hopefully this helps.</p>
<p>That’s what I did with my USC application. I hope they see that. I know I can manage the work, I guess like you said I can formulate beautiful ideas but not necessarily make beautiful art.</p>
<p>I’m from California and it would be easy to just hit up the UC’s but it’s not an interest, especially when I applied to them as a back up to my art schools and got into them when I was in high school I don’t think the UC’s would cut it for me. I don’t want to be a number at a school that only people in California know. </p>

<p>I think your first generation college, URM (IDK re gay) will be plus points for many schools. I think you should id the type of schools you want and go for it. Include a range of selectivity, as anyone should.</p>
<p>because you are required to show each school your record (which WILL INCLUDE your “not so good” art school transcript) you will not be competitive as a minority at most top schools even if you go to a community college and manage a 3.5…</p>
