Every university has its own stereotypes that have some sort of truth to them (example: Berkeley’s really liberal! Princeton has snotty people!) Are there any that hold true for UCLA?

the number of Asian people I guess is one that gets tossed around alot.

premeds everywhere

That becomes “former pre-meds everwhere” by second or third year :D

Also, the acronyms are all pretty true:

Under Construction Like Always
U C Lotsa Asians
University of Civics and Lowered Acuras :D

yay asian guys are cute! =]

University of Caucasians Lost among Asians…

“University of Civics and Lowered Acuras” not so much.

i see more BMW/Merc/Lexus than anything else.

i saw a bentley once.

in terms of "acronym"s,
U¢LA compared to U$C

saw ferraris twice, and i second the bentley statement too

its more like ucla and u$c (university of dollars and cents) because all they have is their money

I’ve heard a lot of Asian ones. My favorite is University of Cute Little Asians.

UCLA is right in between Bel-Air and Beverly Hills…that explains the nice cars.

It’s crazy diverse. All sorts of people. So if the people are a consideration, you’ll find your group; they’re here. Also, pretty darn liberal. Berkeley has the largest Republicans club, believe it or not. (believe it)

Tons of Asians. But all you have to do is look at the stats to figure that one out. Some cute, some ugly, all people.

Tons of nice cars, Aston martins, Ferrari etc

That level of nice car does not necessarily belong to the students… but the local filthy rich (we’re flanked by Bel Air and Beverley Hills). Hang around enough on Wilshire or Sunset and you’ll see limited edition Bugattis and Lamborghinis too… I always see a ton of beamers on the 405.

As for other stereotypes… Yes. Tons of Asians - both Asian American and FOBs. Learn to love us or choose a “north campus” (liberal arts) major. However, keep in mind that UCLA is in a massive and diverse metropolitan area - there are so many types of people out there, and so many different types of places to go that it’s hard to feel trapped… unless you have bad allergies towards smog. Along that line, there is not enough “nature” close by… and what there is is typically dry and dusty cough cough - the beach is dirty, but nice to hang out nearby (boardwalk, pier, shopping, restaurants), if not necessarily swim in.

And it’s true that there is a decent party scene here. Probably better than UCSD, although nothing compares to UCSB.

Better than UCSD? Really? I’ve heard the parties are usually off-campus though.

Well, the parties at UCLA are definitely more accessible (right next to campus)… which may or may not be a good thing. I also heard that at UCSD you have to actively seek out the social scene, since it can get pretty quiet down there. I think a lot of people live within driving but not walking distance from the UCSD campus. At UCLA we can literally walk into a random apt party, which, honestly, is kind of weird.

As for the quality of party, I guess it just depends on who you hang out with and what you’re looking for. Also what “scene” you’re into. I get the impression things in LA can be much more fast-paced, whereas the general attitude in the San Diego area is much more chill - not that you can’t have both either, like I said, depends on the person.

“Under Construction Like Always”

Haha, this one is so true.

not necessarily… they’re predominantly frat parties… they might be next to the campus… doesn’t mean they’re NOT exclusive… as for apt parties, um… never heard of this… and i’m a third year…
