Any trying to buy a ticket on American Airlines today??

Oldest son flew home on a one way ticket — we weren’t sure when he would be flying back. He has done this numerous times before and we never found it to be any big deal cost wise. Today, I went to book him a ticket back. When I tried Expedia or Orbitz, the price was about 5 times the normal cost of the ticket, but I noticed that American Airlines was not showing up I went to both American and United’s websites, same price. However, I did see on the American website that they are no longer booking through Expedia or Orbitz. I got the tickets I wanted at the normal price through Student Universe, and I see that Cheaptickets had the same price as SU. What a mess! Any one else finding funny airline prices today??

We hold frequent flyer status with American Airlines. They are no longer offering their tickets through Orbitz.

Also you are dealing with booking at the busiest travel time of the year (except Thanksgiving weekend) AND there have been weather snafus all over the airline world with MANY confirmed folks rebooking. My guess is there aren’t very many empty seats…period.

I hold an AA frequent flyer account and got this message yesterday:

“As a valued customer, we want to inform you that Expedia® has chosen to make American Airlines tickets more difficult to find on Expedia® sites. We are committed to ensuring that you are always presented with the lowest available fares on American, so we regret that Expedia® has chosen not to feature our fares. You may still purchase American Airlines flights on AA.com, our newly re-designed website, as well as many other online travel sites.”

It only mentioned Expedia, not Orbitz. I fly only on Southwest if I can manage it and use Expedia if SW doesn’t go where I need to go. Now I’ll have to use AA, too, to check out fares. Have never found the airline sites to be less expensive.

I wonder why Expedia (or other sites) were not prominently featuring AA flights. Could it possibly be that they were more expensive???

Not booking for right now, booking about three weeks out, so the current weather should have nothing to do with it. Also, we have been flying this route about 5-6 times a year for the last 6 years. The most we ever pay for a one way is about $135. Today American and United have the route listed at $500 for a one way. Expedia and Orbitz have the route listed at $500 (just not on American). Cheaptickets and Kayak had it at $135 and I got it today on Student Universe for $124. I suspect there is something going on with the other websites, just trying to figure out what.

The American website says they will no longer be listed on either Orbitz or Expedia.

I have always used kayak.com and sidestep.com, which recently merged, when searching for airline flight. Both sites have a place that allows you to check prices on Priceline, Hotwire, Expedia, Travelocity and CheapOair. Most major airlines are included in the search.
