Any UCLA students doing the Human Biology & Society major?

Hi,

I got into UCLA for Anthropology BA but am contemplating on switching to the Anthropology BS major, Cognitive Science major, or the newly established Human Biology & Society major, since I am planning on going to dental school and the science courses for the BS program are a necessity.

Is anyone or plans to be a Human Biology & Society major? I would really appreciate any feedback & advice on the major, a general overview of what it consists of, the key prerequisites, and the potential steps I need to follow to make the change into that major on orientation day.

Thank you kindly in advance

i just looked up the major and i thought it was pretty interesting :) actually im more interested on this major then the other science majors. since most of the science prereqs look the same with "calculus/ organic chem" requirments

i WANT TO BE A SCIENCE MAJOR BUT I CANT because of my horrible math skills. im hoping this would be more lenient. :) does anyone know of the requirements for this?

Wow, I definitely feel the exact same way & am in the same boat as you. The hardcore sciences are extreme & intimidating at times. I'm totally considering transitioning into this major if I receive enough details on the program & information on the requirements/prereqs

Does this mean new classes are being made to accommodate this major? Or is it just going to combine classes from different majors to create its own?

^
Most likely just combine other classes and adding like 2-3 classes of their own.

mrD390, I'm in the same situation as you!

I got into UCLA as an anthropology major, but like you, I heard they came out with the new human biology and society major, and so I'm considering whether I want to switch to it or not.

I'm about to go to my orientation this week, so I think I'll just ask my counselor if he/she knows what the major requirements will be and if I can already get started on preparing for the major this year.

Hello everyone,
I was speaking to my new student advisor about the major and she said that it is extremely competitive, and that only 5 will be admitted for the B.A. and 5 for the B.S.
Hope that helps

^I believe it's 10 for BA and 10 for BS, or maybe 5 freshmen into each? But yeah, that's definitely extremely competitive. It's a shame that the spots are so damn limited, it seems like a great program.
