Just this specific one. Thinking about going there when on vacation. I’ve read it’s extremely expensive, but you are paying for the “see and be seen” crowd and ambiance. Not sure it’s worth it though, but would be fun once. If you have been, what are your thoughts? I would only want to be seated outdoors.
I try to avoid smug phony snobs.
Well, I’m sure alot of tourists and locals aren’t like that. Not sure what to make of your comment. I personally love to be at popular places like that…it’s not like I’m having conversations with them. There are fake phoney snobs at any restaurant or I have a few in my neighborhood.
It’s a restaurant. You don’t have to have anything to do with “smug phony snobs.” You enjoy the view, the meal, and your own “non snobby” friends/family.
I would be more interested in the quality of the food than the other patrons. What do the reviews say?
I have been there once. I had the Black Cod Miso which was good. The restaurant and view is pretty. I don’t like the drive from LA to Malibu. I prefer Hinoki & The Bird.
I’ve never been to the one in Malibu, but have been to the one in San Diego a few times. The sushi is good, but I think it is a bit overpriced. But I agree that if you want to go for the view and to people watch then do it! When we are in LA we like Sugarfish and Kazunori for sushi.
I’ve been to a Nobu’s before but as I recall, the prices were way more than the value for the food, so never went back. I haven’t been to the particular location you referenced, sorry. I’m not even positive which Nobu’s I ate at, but it was not in Waikiki either.
Small portions, great views, trendy, high-end California “feel”
I have been to Nobu once and felt the prices were too high for the portion sizes, but I am too practical for fine-dining type places in general, lol.
IMO, if you are looking for that true Southern California/LA experience, you’re better off at one of our many fine Mexican restaurants… Pancho’s is a good one if you are really into atmosphere/aesthetics (and the food it pretty good too).
Paco’s Tacos (west LA) is also good.
