Anybody dealing with arthritis ?

I have some recent problems in my shoulder ,which turns out to be some arthritis .Doctor gave me some prescription , which mentions slight risk of HEART ATTACK or STROKE ,so not using this .Anybody have any great home remedies to try?

I’m at higher risk for heart disease, so I avoid medications like that. For my minor arthritis (hands, feet, and back) I have found acupuncture to be very helpful.

Someone should move this to the parent cafe.

My SIL has great luck with acupuncture for her wrist. I am a HUGE fan of GNC’s TriFlex with Hyaluronic Acid. My mom is sold on one of the arthritis supplements from Purity Products.

Some communities offer Yoga for arthritis. I saw a blurb on TV about it. It looks silly, but it keeps your joints active.

Why is this posted in the forum?
Ironic much?
re:And what are the spring color predictions? I am confused-is this thread on COLLEGE CONFIDENTIAL ?

I have arthritis, osteoporosis & fibromyalgia.
I just started taking trazadone occasionally for the fibromyalgia.
I also do yoga & try to eat lots of tumeric.

^^A quick learner!

Moved this to the Cafe. I find most helpful for arthritic pain: warm, hot bath (hot as can stand it) and move the joints while under water. If that’s impossible for a shoulder, I guess a hot shower is also a good idea. Also try to do it first thing in the morning before any other activity (not always possible). Hm: try a clutch purse or wrist-strap wallet instead of those huge shoulder/tote bags that hold “everything” all day long. If you live in cold climate, and the shoulder hurts, it could be radiating pain from the neck, so be sure to wear a warm turtleneck or wool scarf outdoors. I was recently prescribed Arthrotec, but it didn’t help so I’ve been told to stop it. Instead a muscle relaxant was prescribed. In the past I used NSAID’s with some beneficial results.

Have you tried a contour pillow of memory foam, to sleep at night?
It’s shaped like a wave, and cradles your neck and shoulders better than a standard pillow. It might help you some.

Turmeric? Really? I’m going to try that!

“I also do yoga & try to eat lots of tumeric.”

At least you won’t get Alzheimer.

haha, I think I already have it!
the flip side is, I can read all my old books & it is as if they are brand new!
;)

Acupunture and 2 T daily organic apple cider vinegar.

Expanding on p3t’s recommendation of a hot bath: My doc recommended heat therapy for the arthritis in my thumbs. I have wraps that I heat in the microwave, and they really help when the pain is bad. Cold therapy can also be helpful for arthritis.

There are a variety of heat and cold wraps designed specifically for shoulders.

I’ve had my hip replaced and it’s a cure! But my other hip is bad too. I have tried lots of supplements and rx’s over the years. I got tired of pills. Now I only swim and take Vitamin D. I might go back to Tumeric.

1down12togo - Why the apple cider vinegar? After years of fighting heartburn, it was discovered that instead of taking Tums to settle the stomach acid that I actually need more stomach acid to aid in digestion. Now if I have a bout of heartburn I take 2 spoons of apple cider vinegar and the immediate taste and after taste just about do me in. Eeeew!

I just remembered this morning something I read in a newspaper for arthritis home-cure:

soak raisins in GIN for 24 hours; eat a tablespoon of the plump/drunk raisins daily

Gin raisins- sounds like fun!!
