I use my cards almost daily for points on gas and air miles but I keep the monthly balance paid off or very low. This month American Express and Citi both upped the interest rate by about 4%. Not a huge impact to me since there is little balance but is anyone else seeing this.

My credit is outstanding yet still the increase. I am about to tell them to shove the card and cut it up and just use a debit card. Yet I do like the air miles.

I called my credit card holder a few weeks ago and asked for a lower interest rate. Mine had been creeping up…and the “new person” offers were getting very appealing. I asked politely if they could lower my rate. And they did. I’ve done this before. One time I did have to tell them that I would take my business elsewhere…but most times…they just find me a better rate. You gotta call and ask. Believe me…they won’t come to YOU with a lower rate.

I did the same thing Thumper. Also – I called my card company to cancel one of my cards that has airline miles (I didnt want to pay the annual 75 dollar fee) They dropped the fee and kept me as a customer.

My credit card company (USAA) unexpectedly lowered our card to 5% some time this past year (I wasn’t paying attention, just happened to look at the bill last month and noticed). I thought that was cool. It had been up around 7.5%.
