<p>“Blow Dry” …</p>
<p>Truly Madly Deeply is one of my most favorite movies ever. Just thinking about it and tears well up in my eyes. Very very romantic. How one person takes care of another.</p>
<p>Rickman was chosen as Hans Gruber (first major film role) based on his performance in a play on Broadway (though it originated on the West End) called Les Liasions Dangereuses (forgive the spelling if it’s wrong) where he played the Vicomte de Valmont. From what I read in old reviews, he was amazing and played the role for about 1 1/2 years. For anyone who doesn’t know the story, he played this womanizing rich Frenchman who hatches a plan to ruin a good-natured female, but ends up actually loving her. It’s the original Cruel Intentions. From what a review said, he was so disturbingly erotic in the role that by the end of the play, everyone looked so hopped up by Rickman and his costars’ philandering that the audience was ready to go to bed with each other. He didn’t win the Tony award, but it was close; James Earl Jones took it instead. The real crime came when the film was cast and they gave the role to John Malkovich, who, most agree, was rubbish in the role compared to Rickman. He to this day will not comment on the snubbed film role. </p>
<p>Point is, I’d have liked to see him play that role. For those who enjoy intense subject matter, attempt to find a movie called Dark Harbor that he was in. I never found it but I happen to know that at the end of the movie, there is a kissing scene between he and a man. Truly interesting characters he picks. </p>
<p>Poor guy never married his girlfriend of 30+ years, and they never had children because she didn’t want any. He made a comment once on sort of wanting kids, but, you know…he said if he had a family he would not be acting; he couldn’t do that to a family, go off for so long as he does. Awful nice guy I think.</p>
<p>LOVE Alan Rickman. He is sexy. Perfect mix of tortured, steamy, & romantic… and the accent…!</p>
<p>Yes, yes, Alan Rickman! The voice, the eyes. Even my d, a college freshmen gets him. Anyone who loves him must see Truly, Madly, Deeply.</p>
<p>My only problem–the mustache he sported for T,M,D.</p>
<p>He was definitely at his sexy best as Dr. Lazarus in “Galaxy Quest.”</p>

<p>I love his bit at the very beginning when he’s speaking into the mirror…“I played Richard III…there were four curtain calls and now look at me…look at me!! I won’t do it! I won’t say that stupid line one more time!” He was so entertaining in that. I love that movie. And then Tim Allen comes in and asks if he’s late for Alexander’s panic attack. Brilliant writing. He pays such close attention to details while acting, I love it. Like the way he slumps in the chair when Tim Allen starts going on about whatever.</p>
<p>His lines were the best. And he didn’t look too bad in that either. I liked his apartment where he was walking round eating with his suit hanging off.</p>
<p>Count me in as an Alan Rickman fan. I haven’t see the Harry Potter movies or T/M/D, but he was great in two of my favorite movies - Galaxy Quest and Dogma. Plus he was amazing in Rasputin, an HBO movie. Maybe I’ll try to rent T/M/D soon.</p>
<p>Is no one bothered that he is a mere 60 years young?</p>
<p>It is excusable since he is A) younger than Harrison Ford by 3 1/2 years; B) younger than Jack Nicholson by a little under nine years, C) is younger than Sean Connery by 15 1/2 years, D) is younger than Michael Douglas, but only by a little over a year, E) is younger than Michael Caine by a lot, and F) doesn’t smoke and has a way better voice than any of them.</p>

<p>I think what makes this topic interesting to me and to others is that so many people get what I’m talking about. I mean, add to the list of Strangely Attractive Guys Ralph Fiennes, Adrien Brody (for some, not me), Hugh Laurie, Colin Firth, Liam Neeson (for some, not me), Johnny Depp (for some, not me), etc. Heck, even Geoffrey Rush manages to get attention from some. </p>
<p>The thing about Alan Rickman is that he has this elegance on screen that pops out; he has a wonderful sense of humor as well as an inherent shyness. I watch The View occasionally and way back when it first started the show had Emma Thompson, her mother, and Alan Rickman, all promoting his movie The Winter Guest. Prior to Rickman’s going onstage, Emma Thompson and her mother were asked what they like in men. They gave charming answers, but Thompson’s mother had stated a rather obscene preference. Well, once Alan Rickman got onstage, you could tell from the off that he was feeling small around all of the women present. He said so. He spoke really low and seemed incredibly shy. Then, having heard what the girls’ remarks were about men, he began pointing out that he was in accordance with all of their preferences, including the obscene one that Emma Thompson’s mother had offered. Incredibly interesting to watch. In fact, there is a clip online. It’s so funny. He’s extremely adorable.</p>

<p>I just watched Die Hard last night and I realized that perhaps one of the reasons why I like Alan Rickman is that he reminds me of an old boyfriend ( who perhaps slightly overlapped with H)
Boyfriend didn’t quite have the voice and delivery down- but he was young.;)</p>
<p>Anyone who likes Alan Rickman will also find Tom Stoppard extremely compelling. I’ve met him in person and though I was about 24 and he was probably 60 I went weak at the knees!!</p>
<p>Hugh Laurie is definitely wonderful. And as an actor, his range is amazing. It was hard for me to realize he is not only playing an intense role on House, but he’s doing it in a foreign accent! And has anyone seen him in Blackadder? Wow, what a 360 degree difference.</p>
<p>As for Alan Rickman being old, well, to use Ben Franklin’s analogy, just turn the lights out. The voice is so sexy that nothing else would matter anyway. Just listening to his voice is like a sexy backrub.</p>
<p>Good lord SBMOM. When I was 22 I met Albert Finney. He was probably 45. Total weak in the knees.</p>
