A friend got a scholarship letter/offer from USC on Saturday; today they called the student and said it was a mistake. Anybody else have this happen to them?

Can they do this?

I understand that there are some standard university caps on some scholarships, because this was mentioned in my son’s scholarship letter. Could your friend’s offer have exceeded the caps? Maybe a call to the financial aid office would help with an explanation.

No, this was the only scholarship the kid was offered. It was the Lieber, which is for national merit finalists. Now know of several kids who had this mistake happen to them. One was a national merit finalist - not sure why this kid’s not eligible. I don’t know all the details yet. Getting this info second-hand.
