Anybody have info on French Boarding Schools

Per the title. Kid is fully bilingual & has been in French school system for last 2 years & academically competitive; Mom is concerned about the reputation of some French BS as being heavy handed on discipline. Suggestions/advice welcome!

@MYOS1634 do you have insight?

If you have specific school names I’d be happy to ask friends who live there.

The French school system as you probably know is not warm and fuzzy. Discipline can be heavy-handed but also the grading system can be very demoralizing for an American. 15/20 is often the highest grade handed out and that can be hard for US students who are accustomed to getting A+s. If the US system produces kids that are overconfident and undereducated, then the French system produces the opposite.

It also depends if you’re looking at schools that are primarily for French students or if they have an international student body. The French Bac is legendarily difficult, the IB much much easier.

MANY schools are regular public prep schools with dorms - 5-day boarding. Pick your favorite region and there will be some.

École des Roches is 7-day but caters to wealthy kids who aren’t aiming for grandes écoles - they’re not necessarily super academic (lots of activities, leadership opportunities…) and it’s not super strict either. It’s closer to British boarding schools.
L’Ermitage is 5&7-day, also for wealthy kids (45k for full boarding) but more academic, choice of bac or IB, college counseling starts in the 9th grade (MYP4).

Centre International Valbonne is a public boarding school with year-round housing. HIGHLY demanding academically.

The most innovative school is the Lycée Pilote Innovant International (boarding school for 160 students)
