Anybody here a Math Major?

Can you basically tell me anything about the program? I am wondering if the workload is as much as a Biochemistry major, for example.

Can you tell me about the type of people in the program?

How about the fact that the Mathematics department is held in the Carniegie Library. Why is that?

Okay, so I’m a former math major, but I hope that counts (it’s now a minor)…

It’s not a huge workload–you take a series of abstract and quantitative courses that are your typical college math classes–calculus, diff eq, linear algebra, etc. MAT 275 is what bored me out of the major–it’s Intro to Abstract Math and is essentially all logic and proofs. Not my cup of tea, but not difficult, either.

Type of people? Most of them are double majors of some sort–econ, chem, physics…not sure why you mention the Biochem program, but that’s one of our more restrictive majors, because it essentially is a double major in and of itself.

Carnegie library is just the name of the building…it used to be the university’s only library, before Bird was built. Now it houses the math/science libraries, along with many classrooms, and yes, the math department. =D
