anybody know anything about macs?

im a junior in high school heading into summer. Ive planned on getting a mac sometime before college and am starting to look now. I have the money and want to get it by christmas next year at the latest. Right now im just waiting for a new one to come out. Does anyone know when the latest one came out and when the new one is supposed to?

haha the new macs are just bound to be coming out soon (they always are), I would wait till the july before starting college because you never know what Steve Jobs has up his sleeve

I would also rx waiting until just before starting college. Your college's tech dept will most likely offer a good support package if you purchase from them-no matter what kind of computer you buy. If you buy a mac you will most likely get the free iTouch as well, but it is only offered at this time of year for upcoming college students.

The new Macbook and Macbook Pros just came out a couple months ago. I wouldn't expect a refresh until next spring, so you can just go ahead and buy now if you want.

well he's going to be a senior next year so he's not even going into college till fall 2011, wait till summer and get the education discount and maybe something free!

In order to get the college student discount, you have to have an acceptance letter from a college. It might be worth waiting to buy until you have that.

does anybody know how much the college discount is?

ranges from $50-100 for the $1000 macs to $200 for some of the more expensive ones

alright thanks for all the help. i also forgot to mention i was planning on getting a 15 inch macbook pro. im gonna decide in the next week or so and keep doing some research.

probably in september, or January thats usually when they come out

I was thinking about getting a MBP for college once. I then realize that macs give me a headache and annoy the crap out of me. The keyboard keys don't line up, no right click, and etc.. If you're used to a windows then don't switch.

You can right click on a MBP..?

people are just dumb if there isn't two separate buttons for left and right click they just assume that there is no right click you either click with two fingers or hold down control.

d'oh! you can right click... just because you didn't bother to find out how doesn't mean you can't.. right-clicking is tapping two fingers on the touchpad

anyway as for when to buy: Mac Buyer's Guide: Know When to Buy Your Mac, iPod or iPhone

The MacBook Pro was released mid-April so it's probably not gonna come out until quite long. But as the others have said, buy it in college.

I'm talking about on the mini mouse (is that what they call it?) It would be so much easier to have on the there instead of using ctrl (or the apple key?) I didn't know about double tapping. I've only touched a MB a couple times but I've used my brothers iMac that has a regular keyboard without the touchpad so it's a pain trying to incorporate shortcuts on a mac that I've taken for granted on a windows.

I got a student discount when I got my Mac, and I didn't even have to have an acceptance letter! I just selected which school was mine, lol.

I also got a free Ipod (after a mail-in rebate) with mine.

dewd. the mighty mouse has right click. and the same can be said for switching from mac to windows: it's a pain trying to incorporate shortcuts on windows that I've taken for granted on a mac. it's just whether you'd take the effort to learn—to me it was worth the effort switching from windows to mac. YMMV. just don't blame it for "giving you a headache and annoying the crap out of you."
