<p>I’m thinking of taking Math Analysis next year instead of Pre-Calc. Everybody at my school says that Math Analysis is basically the same as Pre-Calc except they go slower? And would it be a lot harder if I go to AP Calculus AB after Math Analysis? Is there a large emphasis on trig in AP Calc AB?</p>
<p>I think it’s possible to go from Math Analysis to Calculus AB (it depends on your ability). If Math Analysis covers the same concepts as PreCalculus, then it wouldn’t be hard to jump to Calculus AB. There’s no Math Analysis at my school though, so I dont really know what it is. But it does seem possible to skip. I never took geometry and still survived in calculus.</p>

<p>The Pre-Calculus at my school is Pre-Calc Honors. I’m already taking Biology AP and Lit Honors and APUSH, so I really don’t want to kill myself by taking a hard math class. Is there a lot of trig in Calculus AB AP?</p>
<p>I wouldn’t say a lot of trig in Calculus. We do use trig, but it doesn’t take up most of the curriculum.</p>
<p>No, trig is more prominent later on; until one gets to the part about techniques of integration trigonometry is not big. Related rates is the only place you might use basic functions (sine, cosine, tangent). AB does not cover techniques of integration, however.</p>

<p>i skipped from algebra 2 trig(soph) to calculus AB and am now doing BC as an independent study(junior). math anaylsis was pretty much pointless, i had to take a text book home during the summer and study it, but i am doing great in calculus right now. i personally thought trig was very helpful and important though.</p>

<p>a kid in my class is doing that, although i HIGHLY doubt he will do well in calculus. he got a D (59) in algebra2trig first-semester, and has a B now in second semester, and our teacher recommended him to AP CALCULUS BC. whereas this same teacher recommended students in his class with B’s first and second semester down to ALGEBRA 2.

<p>Yeah I would just take PreCalc…i guess trig at my school is the equivalent to Math Anaylsis, since you either take trig or precalc, and trig covers about the same topics only slower. However, you can’t go to AP Calc AB (only calc class offered) w/o precalc. I think you’ll be okay.</p>
<p>Sequence in my school:
Geometry 9th, Algebra II 10th, PreCalc 11th, AP Calc AB 12th (although i’m a junior in calc AB). There is also stats offered for seniors.</p>
<p>Both Geometry and Precalc (for all but 1 quarter) were completely pointless…it would have made more sense for me to do Algebra II in 8th and Calc ab in 9th (although i probably wouldnt have been able to handle it)…geometry we did nothing, literally. and only the 2nd semester of precalc was of any value (basic trig stuff).</p>

<p>I took level (regular) precalulus and had a hard time at the beginning of the year in Calc AB, but I caught up after the first 3 weeks (which were review to those from Honors Precal).</p>
<p>yeah, I agree that geometry is a waste of time. my friend from harker said that he did geometry in 8th grade, algebra 1 in 9th, and then algebra2 10th and yeah.</p>
<p>I finished geometry and Algebra I and went to Cal AB… and now… I have a B+… my school is tough… no one gets an A…

<p>i took cp precal (probably about the same as that math analysis) my jr year in high school and made an A and went to AB cal my senior year… AB is pretty easy and itll make freshman math way easier</p>
<p>Interesting…at my school, the only math class offered between Algebra II and AP Calc AB is Math Analysis… we used a book called Precalculus w/ Limits …all the time I thought the class was precalc with a different name.</p>
<p>I think our school uses that same book. The title seems vaguely familiar.</p>
<p>Students in my school generally go from Alg2 into Calc AB. That is what I am going to do.</p>
<p>Yeah precal is useless. I went from alg II(sophomore year) to calc I (junior year) with no problems, and to calc II (senior) at a local university.</p>
