I saw an ad in a magazine and googled it. It’s a supplement for hair regrowth, and on Amazon has fairly good reviews. It’s not FDA approved, many supplements aren’t…but even FDA approved drugs can eventually be found out not to be good for you.
I started losing hair when I was on Welchol for Cholesterol. Once I figured out that was the culprit, i went off of it and it mainly stopped. But, I still shed hair amore than I did before I took the meds, probably age. But I can see thinning under my hair in the temples, and I’m sure I’ve thinned out all over. No one else notices (as i have alot of hair thankfully), but I’m starting to not be able to wear my hair in certain styles. I’ve been taking biotin, but don’t think it helps that much, I’ve upped the dose.
Viviscal has biotin but other ingredients in it…some sort of fish or shark oil. Supposedly you are supposed to take for about 6 months before you see any drastic results. I’ve always been hesitant to take supplements…just wanted to know to if anyone else has tried this.
Never tried it, don’t need it, and consequently will probably never take it. Why not try Rogaine for women, though? That has been shown to be effective.
Why spend money on snake oil? Flax seed oil is cheap and will most likely do the same thing. Show dog owners give it to their pets to improve coat quality and relieve dry skin.
There is a good chance the “shark oil” in the supplement comes from a plant.
I was just reading the other day that fish oil DOES help with hair health, so it makes sense that it is included. I’d love to find a safe way to regrow some hair, as it’s hereditary in my family for women to have super thin, fine hair in their later years, and mine is headed that way. I’ve also read the Rogaine has been linked to heart problems, but have not seen confirmation of this-anyone know? Also, is it true that once you stop using it, you lose your hair again? I’m not sure I want the expense of it for life.
I read the same thing about Women’s Rogain…heart issues. Plus, I also read that it’s normal to lose hair while taking it before any regrowth. I’m just not going to do that. And you have to take it for life or you’ll lose it. I’ve upped my biotin to the max allowed 10,000 mg…so that might help. Just started to do that, will give it several months. But his other supplement has gotten good reviews from what I’ve read.
The one thing I’ve read about that DOES work without side effects are those “laser combs”. QVC sells them, but they aren’t cheap. I think the hair they regrow does stick around once you stop using it. Seriously considering it…H says he doesn’t care and that his mom just wore wigs in her later years, but I won’t go down without a fight!
