I thought Grease was really good - and in part because it had a live audience. It is odd when a character finishes a big number and there is no applause. Also, I think the actors feed off the energy!
I saw a touring production of Hairspray several years ago and that Tracy danced well and danced a lot. I remember thinking she got quite a workout every night and wondered how she could keep from losing weight.
I am going to see Broadway’s Allegiance tonight in the movie theater; it will be interesting to see how watching a musical on the big screen is different than watching it on TV; I suspect if they could get a good audience for this at the movie theater, perhaps it’s something that might be done more often (I know this isn’t the first time it’s been done, though). And of course, the subject matter of tonight is waaaaaay more intense than Hairspray, but I’m looking forward to seeing how they attempt to produce it for a big screen.
I’m going tonight as well, @teriwtt. I bought tickets last week and the show is now sold out except for the very front row.
Loved Ephraim Sykes. We saw him understudy Mulligan/Madison in Hamilton on Broadway.
I don’t remember who we saw as Tracy on Broadway (not original cast) but she could certainly move. There are definitely larger young women who can dance.
I don’t believe this. There are lots and lots and lots of young women with big personalities, strong voices and great dance ability. There are lots and lots and lots of young women who are considerably overweight. The intersection of these groups is not zero.
