Is anyone apprehensive about sending students to school tomorrow considering it’s the anniversary of the Columbine tragedy, the VT day of mourning and all the copy cat behaviors and treats?

I remember in like 8th grade (it happened when I was in 5th grade) I found it was the anniversary and asked my mom to stay home and she granted me the request because it was a valid reason at the time, I guess. At the end of the day alot of my friends told me I was lucky I didnt go because we had a bomb threat aganist the school and they sat in the hot sun for four hours.

I did it once in 9th grade too and after I realized it was alittle silly, I started going to school on that day, It’s just paranoia.

Good question. If you or your child feel uncomfortable, make your own decision whether to stay home and spend the day reflecting.

Not wanting to make light of the situation AT ALL, but keep in mind that 4/20 also has drug connotations—and a few underground celebrations planned. I understand it’s from police jargon or legal wordins somewhere re: marijuana. D alerted me to this one… Said a few of the “potheads” at school were talking about skipping to “celebrate”.

From wikipedia: "The widespread popularity of 4/20 celebrations in the U.S. has brought about calls advocating for the reform of American marijuana laws. The 420 Campaign urges individuals to become involved in the political process and the drug policy reform movement. Specifically, the Campaign calls for leveraging “April 20th as a focal point every year to concentrate pressure on Congress to legalize marijuana.”
