anyone been to Red River, New Mexico in the summer?

Looking at heading there for a few days to escape the central Texas heat. Any good places to eat? College DS won’t be with us, but 7th grader DS will be, so we’re looking at riding up the chair lift one day and maybe a jeep ride.

I did this when I was probably about same age as your youngest, and I was from Texas, so this was quite a treat to get away from the heat. Prior to this trip, almost all travel had been within Texas since we always went to visit relatives. I absolutely LOVED Red River. We did the chair lift as well as a jeep ride. But again, I wasn’t very well-traveled, so it didn’t take much to impress me.

The beauty of Red River is the lack of pretension. Been there lots of times! Sundance is good for old fashioned New Mexican food. Make a reservation during high season. Texas Reds has dining downstairs; have a steak or salmon before heading back up to see if a band is playing. Capos has decent pizza, but we usually get it to go. Mountain Treasures is great for breakfast, coffee, lunch, even a light supper. It’s where the locals hang out. Have fun!
