Anyone done/in TAP/Honors at Foothill? Advice?

So I really want to do the TAP Program at Foothill since last time I checked De Anza doesn’t have their TAP program anymore. Initially I was going to start the program during the Winter Quarter (after earning the required min 3.3 GPA during my Fall quarter) but I’d rather spread out the 6 classes by taking one each quarter. So there’s a few ways to get in without that GPA:

To qualify for the Honors Institute, students must satisfy each of the following requirements:

Academic Performance.

For students with less than 10 units completed at Foothill College, provide evidence of one of the following:

 1. Minimum 3.5 cumulative high school GPA; or,
 2. Minimum 3.3 cumulative GPA in 10 or more units completed at another regionally accredited college or university.

Writing Proficiency.
Honors courses typically require more writing than non-honors courses. Students are required to demonstrate the potential for successful completion of honors courses by providing evidence of one of the following:
Foothill English Assessment Test results indicating eligibility for Honors ENGL 1AH; or,

Completion of ENGL 1A with a grade of B or better.

Personal Statement.
On a separate sheet, using 150-200 words, please describe your interest in the Foothill College Honors Institute. Your statement should include what you hope to gain from your participation in the program as well as how you believe you will contribute to the program. Because honors courses are typically writing intensive, this statement should reflect appropriate writing skills. Remember that clear writing is the result of clear thinking.

I was thinking of Option 3 with the personal statement? Has anyone ever gotten in that way? Is it very difficult?

Also I don’t know if I can enter through Option 2. At De Anza, since I passed my the English Lang. AP exam they use that as my examination into classes but I don’t know if Foothill does that. (I haven’t found any information indicating they do the same.)

I would email the Honors Institute advisors but they are closed for the month of July and won’t reply until after August 4th…

Anyone have any answers/advice?

EDIT: I just realized it says you must satisfy EACH of the requirements. So does this mean I can’t start the Honors Program till the Winter quarter anyway? (I’m sorry–I’m blind ><)

Well I went to Day on a Hill, which is an informational 1 day conference for high school seniors for foothill. I talked to a Honors institute representative and she said that the most important thing was that you PLACE into honors english when you take the english placement test. She said that if you place into honors english, you can try out english 1a honors and go from there.

So yeah, if you don’t meet some of the requirements, i suggest u do well on the placement test. I took it and some questions are kinda weird, but its not too bad.

you need to satisfy all 3 requirements not just “option 3”.
so you need:
good academic performance
writing proficiency
AND that 150-200 word essay thing.

i just finished foothill last week and i was in the honors program.'

however, you CAN start taking honors classes wihtout being in the program.

I finished 3 honors classes before joining hte honors program, so you CAN just take 1 a quarter like you planned.

if you take honors classes before joining the program do they count those classes once you enter the Honors/TAP program?
