Wow, that is a really great poem. Thanks :-)

“Haha, I feel extemely inadequate compared to the other CCers too! Idk, I also have this weird thing, for every single standardized test I’ve ever taken I always end up in the 95% percentile, and I’ve always hated that because compared to other people it made me feel so mediocre, and I thought once I hit the magic 99th percentile I’ll be happy…but no, just got ACT results back, I’m finally in the 99th and I still don’t feel smart. Weird, huh”

Wow, that is exactly how I feel

When I know them personally, I adore them and try to be like them. When I read about random model students in magazines or wherever, I feel horrible about myself.

Personally, reading all these chances topics are funny. It’s like the Ivy League is the only school that promises them a future. Reading in the College life forum though, I appreciate the people there more. It seems that during the High School years on this website everyone is filled with a “Top 20 or death” thought process, but looking on the College life forum I seem people in schools CCers would completely mock for lacking name brand or number. However, the students in those schools are completely content with where they are and wouldn’t change a thing.

I got a 3 on Mechanics. :(

I feel very inadequate, despite my 6 other 5s and 3 4s. I am a rising senior, yes. I am lame. But I think it may be for other reasons. I’m not socially … stable, right now. Maybe I wouldn’t care, normally. But yeah. For anyone to have what they really claim in all of those commitments, I think they’ve definitely got some aspect of their life much less strenuous than other people. (aka, easier classes in terms of APs, easier clubs to manage, easier sports teams to make etc.)

Remember, these kids probably had their path taken care of, They probably already had parents with connections with professors or sought them out themselves. These kids are driven to be the best. It’s not to feel inadequate about.

Admission officers know that you are taking up most of your opportunities to shine. Some kids just have better access to resources. Joining science competition, contests at local areas, etc… will demonstrate your passion for whatever it is.

Being one of the kids with 4+ research, 4+ EC school, etc… Is nice, but doesn’t really guarantee you an automatic admission.

Yeah I do feel pretty mediocre compared to other kids here on CC. I did really well on my college entrance exams (2270 SAT, 33 ACT, 800 Math IIC, 720 Physics), but my GPA is not that good (3.5) and I have only decent ECs. When I look at “Chance Me” threads at schools that I am interested in applying to and seeing kids who have so much ECs and a great GPA, it really makes me wonder if I even have a shot. I guess I have to try to find out!

I am soon to be in the 10th grade, and frankly - I am quite intimidated by many of the ‘Chance Me’ threads that I have seen on this site. I have good grades, have done above and beyond in terms of coursework (or so I believe), and I do have pretty solid ECs. However, my volunteer work is a bit lacking, and therefore I am always feeling slightly inadequate. But now it is summer, and I have at least two years ahead of me to improve! I’m not going to let past failures slow me down. (:

That’s the spirit. Heck, if you even want to be beyond, look what your interested in, may it be science, math, or history, I would do some research with a professor from a community college. This will show your passion, and it’s a bonus, why not do something college work level and be awarded?

I feel like I am the very model of mediocreness, despite doing reasonably well. It must be this site, it pretty much makes everyone feel like a failure.

^haha. Warning: CC may cause extreme cases of an inferiority complex. If you develop a rash, see your doctor immediately. :]

But yea, I’ve had good grades so far (haha. 4.0 freshman year, which doesn’t really say anything about me yet…) and decent ECs. I’m feeling very very very mediocre right now…
Maybe I’ll become average once I get my SAT scores…assuming that I won’t fail them.

Aw yeah I know what you mean…I feel like I don’t have the time nor energy to do anything else, but I should be. I don’t know what more I can do though…:(

But it’s all good in the end :P

I do…

CC has definitely resulted in some severe inferiority complex cases at times, seeing some absolutely ridiculous kids. But I have enough of them at my own school to deal with. I get beat in terms of academics by so many of my friends. I may be good at one of them, and near the top, but I’m not the best at any of them. Still, I’m the best at violin and in terms of how I am viewed by my peers, I’m is way ahead. Haha, thank god people think I’m actually cool and vote for me for leadership positions, otherwise I really would feel a lot worse about myself.
