I’ve never worried about the date before but this year I am.
On the one hand we are not near any “likely targets” but on the other hand there seems to be a call for lone wolf crazies to come out.
Doesn’t help that the UK elevated their threat level to their 2nd highest level.

Are you planning to do anything different or just following your usual routine?

If I were a megalomanaical terrorist, my ego would demand its own date. Why would I want to be a footnote on the 2001 Wikipedia page: in 2001, four commercial airliners were hijacked and deliberately crashed, and asterisk oh yeah, in 2014 there was a little chicken $hit incident by a bunch of wanabees.

Compared to the crazies out there right now, Al Qaida is our friend. They would not strike to celebrate some other nutcases date of terror. Probably the safest day out there.

I would not alter my comings and goings due to terrorism. Odds at being in a certain spot at the wrong time are very slim. That said, I didn’t like reading about the elevated threat levels in the UK as one of my daughters is moving there in a couple of weeks and the other one lives in NYC. Life must go on!

Well, I haven’t thought about it. But I also thank my lucky star that my daughter changed her date and came back sooner, she was going to come back Sept 12 but she missed us and changed her plan and came back sooner. The minute she’s back there is threat elevation in UK and I’ve heard on the news that the volcano in Iceland is exploding and she also just told me a building in Paris is exploding.

I had to look up the date to see what the big deal was with the second Thursday.

Is this something you have been nervous about every year? I’m sorry…I just don’t get it. If people have been nervous about this date every year, I have REALLY been out of the loop.

I never “worry” about the date, but it is my own personal Memorial Day (no slight intended to the official day). My wife worked at WTC and I worked a few blocks away.

It’s my birthday. I don’t tell people who don’t already know because then all I hear is “what a horrible day to have a birthday.” Not exactly something my mom consulted with the terrorists on 51 years in advance.

I called to cancel my dental appointment, and the receptionist said to hurry over, the dentist’s DD was in Tower 2 and they didn’t know the outcome. Turned out she led a group out, but it was a LONG day in that office.

@bookworm, my wife had forgotten our son’s school lunch that day, so she had made an extra trip to the school and was behind schedule, so I got to call her on her cell and tell her not to get on the PATH train to WTC after the first plane hit. She also worked in one of the smaller towers.
