anyone ever do this?

anyone ever knock themselves out/get knocked out by chloroform. I wanna do it for the experience, but how dangerous is it, how long do you stay knocked how, how is it when you are conscious again. i think it’d be a cool college essay and a worthwhile experience.

i think you would come across as a borderline lunatic with an essay like that. why would you ever want to be knocked out by chloroform? all i know is it works for big animals…lol.

well, we were watching tale of two cities in class and i got the idea. i am a bit of a loon…i just think it would be cool to just instantly pass out…

I think your nutz. literally!

I think there are consequences to that (like loss of memory, balance, etc). It works on humans, but I wouldn’t recommend trying it.

the white dude above my right shoulder says: do it, i couldn’t have cared less
the black one on the left says: you shouldn’t you’ll hurt yourself

Well if you die, don’t say we didn’t warn you.

I nearly suffocated myself breathing ammonia at close range, as a mistake-it was 15 M concentration and was very powerful. Breathing KOH gas was even worse.

I heard breathing helium can make your voice change. Has anyone ever tried it?

Yes it can, but I’ve only watched other people try it. I don’t think it’s too dangerous though.

though in the Flinn chemical catalogue it did say (under Helium) something like ‘we are aware that students would try breathing in helium but the practice is strongly discouraged’

Yes, I have-it does, and shortens your vocal cords. Breathing Xe makes your voice very deep in contrast; it is molecular weight that is the factor.

So if you’re a boy and want to pretend to be a girl on the phone, inhale large quantities of He. If you’re a girl and want to pretend to be a boy, inhale lots of Xe. :)

Yes, but don’t kill yourself-0.01 mol Xe should do the trick, because I doubt one could take in 22 L of Xe at once.

What if you breathed in both He and Xe at the same time? Would your voice stay the same?

wouldn’t that be like stepping on the gas and brake pedals at the same time? or drinking and smoking at the same time?

= not fun

No, your voice would be deepened depending on how many moles of gas you inhaled of each. Besides, the equilibrium would be shifted to Xe.

A friend of mine threatened to cholorform me about 2 weeks ago. But it wasn’t really that scary because 1) he’s really nice and 2) it was to later hynotize me to be in Disco next year for speech. But I was still like W T F?

Does Xe really lower your voice? That’s sweet. He is fun :)

Maybe he’ll jump up behind you and chloroform you, and then kidnap you. ;)

omg, breathing helium, yes it makes ur voice change. it makes it go kind of high and squeaky. i dont reccomend u trying it because it can lose u brain cells. helium breathing was pretty popular at bat mitzvahs that i attended due to the numerous balloons around. i was too scared to try, so i just watched my friends in disbelief as they sucked in the balloons, despite the brain-cells warning, and talk to each other. i admit that their voices were pretty funny though.

i dont exactly think passing out will be a good thing…im pretty sure there is something bad. besides, i doubt fainting will be as nice as in the movies, when it seems so romantic. who knows what might happen. its a risk, so dont try it.
