Anyone going to Rise and Shine?

Anyone going to Rise and Shine? Anyone who’s already been, what all info will they give and what sort of questions should we ask?

I went last year. I highly recommend going if you are seriously considering being a student there. There’s a ton of tours and information sessions and you get a really good feel for the campus. Also some good opportunities to look into other majors if you aren’t 100% sure about yours.

When I went, my dad (UT alum.) took me to see his old biology professor who showed me this really cool algae collection, which is supposedly one of the biggest in the world. Most departments had their own exhibits going.
Chemical engineers had this thing where they put propane in soapy water to make propane bubbles- one person would stick their arm in so it would be covered in the bubbles, then the bubbles would be ignited. Their arm would be fine since it was insulated by the water even though it would be on fire for a second. Pretty cool, but didn’t really give much insight into what studying CE would be like.
Some other department had a closed off parking lot where there was one of those autonomous vehicles which can drive and navigate on its own.

A lot more goes on than that, but you get the idea.

Thanks. D will be visiting the pharmacy and natural science events and probably stop by the engineering since they’re close by. Who’s your dad’s prof? Sounds like he’d be a neat pick for your classes.

lulz

Can anybody tell me what Rise and Shine is? I haven’t heard of it before.

Basically, it’s a yearly UT open house event where you can learn things about the university that you really can’t otherwise.

It’s the first Saturday in March. From what I gather, different departments have exhibits and talks for K-12 and a couple of the dorms are open for tours. I don’t know if you HAVE to register for the actual hour “Rise and Shine” meeting for hs juniors but here’s the site. Hmm, can’t figure out why they call it that but whatever.
