I don’t buy the flavors - I don’t think the cost savings are that significant if you buy the flavorings. I usually just squirt some lemon and lime juice into my carbonated water. I’ve been trying to cut down on my caffeine intake, so this is a very affordable way for me to still get the bubbles I like :)

I have one, and use it all the time without adding any flavors or syrups. Just the sparkling water, with maybe a lemon or lime wedge.

Got S1 for Christmas 2 years a go and he loves it. (I like it because it cuts down on waste and we can moderate the sugar level, plus it’s real sugar vs high fructose corn syrup).

His favorites are:

Cream
Root beer
Grape
Ginger Ale (when he’s felling under the weather)

I’m a Diet Coke addict and I thought it was gross. Too flat for my likes, as the bubble rush is one reason why I prefer diet coke over diet Pepsi.

Others we didn’t like: Mountain mist (not at at like Mountain Dew) and faux Dr Pepper (just yuck).

I was curious about the Diet Coke flavor, that would be the one thing to get me to run our and buy this is if I heard it was great. Oh well.

I agree that the cost savings may not be much if you use the syrups…particularly the “natural ones” which are kind of pricey! The natural grapefruit one was quite good…a surprise.

There are these “essences” that you can get ($10 for 3 bottles) where you only use a tiny bit to flavor the water…so it’s like flavored club soda.

My son wanted to try to make his own syrup out of a simple syrup recipe and some vanilla.

I’ve been very curious about this and sort of want one. The lemon and lime slices sound good to me and I would love to stop H carting a zillion cans into the house. S is a coke lover. Anyone try the regular coke flavor?

^^
There are at least two different regular cola flavors. One is just cola and the other is a “natural cola”(cane sugar, supposed to be more like the higher end colas).

My son didn’t like the just cola one. Target had the “natural cola” bottle on sale, so I bought one for him to try.

As for Diet Cola…there are also two different ones…a regular diet cola and a 'cola zero" version.

Would you happen to know if there is a caffeine free diet cola?

^^
Before Christmas, I saw an ad and at that pt there were 75 flavors. They said that in 2014 there would be 200 flavors.

Yes, there also is a diet caff free cola…it’s in a dk yellow bottle.

There is a caffeine free diet cola. [Sodastream | SodaMix Flavors](SodaStream Official: Sparkling Water Makers, Carbonating Gas Cylinders)

We like ours but don’t usually use any of the flavors. If we add anything, it’s just the juice from a piece of citrus fruit.

We use real squeezed lemon juice. Love it!!!

There was an article a few days ago that suggested adding 100% cranberry juice or pom juice to the carbonated water instead of the syrups.

Is there a big difference between the different machines? I see that there is
a wide variety of prices for them.

I only have a few favors that came with a sample pack, but my college S just uses regular orange juice to add a little flavor and he is perfectly happy. I have refilled the CO2 cartridges about 6 times since I bought it a year ago, so we are getting our money’s worth.

Some of the newer more expensive ones have indicators that let you know if you’ve carbonated the bottles enough. Also, at least one of the newer ones has an easier way to attach and unattach the bottles to the machine.

All of the SodaStream flavorings use artificial sweeteners and if you’re like me that’s all you can taste (and it’s not a good taste.) However, just having the club soda on tap so to speak is worth it to me.

Agree with Wellspring. The ingredients on the flavorings put me off, and no one in our family likes the taste of artificial sweeteners. Having said that, I did purchase the SodaStream for my son for Christmas and we all really like the taste of the carbonated water that it produces. I just add lemon or lime. For the children I purchase all natural frozen orange or grape juice concentrate and add a couple of teaspoons to the seltzer. They say is tastes just like orange or grape soda but it has much less sugar.

DH loves bubbly water. S sometimes mixes frozen juice with it- grape is delicious. We don’t like the syrups flavorings.

I like the idea of frozen juice concentrate. May pick up somegrape at store for S to try.
