Anyone have advice about where to stay in Aruba?

My DH and I are kind of unexpectedly and suddenly getting to go to Aruba for a week around the middle of September (for his work!). Any suggestions about where to stay or what to do?

depends what you want to do… or rather how you want to spend your time… the area of low rises, are mostly timeshares, with an older clientel and much quieter relaxed attitude… The high rise area is the newer hotels… Marriott… etc with lots of nightlife, noise excitement etc…

Just depends what you are looking for… either way… going into town is just a short trip from either and loads of fun.

We like the Marriott Surf club condos and have rented weeks on redweek.com
Just google your renters to make sure they are real people. If someone seems difficult, go on to the next person. The lazy river is fun, the units are nice and you can cook or just do breakfast and/ or lunch in the unit if you want.

Thanks to both of you for your replies!

DH will be working for 2-3 days (consulting) and I will probably just enjoy relaxing and/or shopping while he does that. We are pretty flexible…just want some beautiful island scenery and the chance to maybe do some sailing.

I went on redweek and apparently the week we are going is a very popular one! there was not a single unit available anywhere. Does that tend to change a lot? We are only talking 3 weeks from now or so, but there were units still available in August and of course some after September…

We have been to Aruba seven times. If you want to rent a timeshare I prefer the Marriott Ocean Club, where we own, over the Surf Club. We regard the latter as much too big. Plus the Ocean Club has better beach access than the Surf Club. The OC guests also have access to the Marriott hotel pool.

If you want a hotel the Marriott is excellent and was redone within the last few years. Pay a little extra and get one of their large corner rooms. Make sure you are above the palm trees.

Now if you want top of the line go to the Hyatt. We have never stayed there, but it is a great looking hotel. Check out the reviews on tripadvisor.com. [Hyatt Regency Aruba Resort and Casino (Palm/Eagle Beach, Aruba) - Resort Reviews - TripAdvisor](http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g147249-d149892-Reviews-Hyatt_Regency_Aruba_Resort_and_Casino-Palm_Eagle_Beach_Aruba.html). Tripadvisor is much less useful for timeshare reviews since many people do not understand the difference between timeshares and hotels especially the lack of daily maid service.

There are lots of restaurants and shopping in the high rise area, but if you want to see the island and go elsewhere to eat, I recommend you rent a car.

We really like it there. I’m sure you will have a great time.
