Anyone have an iPhone 4-(Verizon) die abruptly?

Have a less than 3 month old phone that has been great. Today, went to check email and then the dreaded black screen appeared. No response for a couple of hours. Wondering how common this is for others and what the remedy proved to be. Obviously, will be headed to the Verizon store ASAP. Thanks.

Is the phone dead or is it just an email issue? I have ATT and older iPhone, so this “fix” may not work for you, but I’ve had a similar experience with my exchange email going black screen. What helps is going to settings, turning email off, then turning the phone off and back on, then turning email on. This, of course, only works if the phone is still operational.

Sorry for the lack of clarity. Phone is not working at all. Screen remains black, though it is fully charged. Thanks.

Update: able to restore phone by holding on button and circle simultaneously for a few seconds. Hope this helps someone else.

you may need to reset it.

Thanks ek4. That is exactly what worked. Just haven’t had to do it before today. I am really enjoying the phone.

I’ve had to do the forced reset to my first iPhone a couple of times before but I think after doing one of the updates I didn’t need to do it anymore. Eventually that phone failed to be able to make any wireless connections. I took it to the Apple store in the mall (as opposed to AT&T) and they replaced the phone under warranty after I explained to the supposed Apple ‘genius’ how the phone was really failing since she had no clue what she was doing. They opened a drawer that must have had hundreds of iPhones in it and replaced it. That one hasn’t failed.

If your iPhone fails again you might do better to take it to the Apple store if you have one close to you rather than the Verizon store (but I don’t have Verizon so they may operate differently).
