When I go on vacation, it doesn’t matter the length of time, I become…ahem…constipated. It’s so uncomfortable. We will be going on vacation in a couple months and I would like to try these. When I’m home, I have no issues.
Has anyone used them? I was thinking I might start the day of departure.
I often will take 1-2 stool softeners a day or two before I leave - that seems to help. Also pack a couple in case you need them on the trip. This is different than a fiber pill.
Thank you everyone! From your suggestions and a couple PM’s, it looks like stool softeners are the way to go. I will start taking the day before I leave. I had never heard of Vacation Constipation!
I will also typically bring a bag/tupperware with a mixture of chia seeds, hemp seeds, pumpkin seeds, wheat germ and flax seed everywhere I go. And will sprinkle into my breakfast somewhere.
Also, avoid processed foods (cookies, white rice, etc.), red meat, alcohol, bananas, blah, blah, blah. But constantly drinking water is most beneficial. I’d avoid taking pills and go natural.
Good idea about bringing the seeds! This will actually be my first vacation since I’ve started drinking at least 32 oz. of water a day…so hopefully that might make a difference.
If you change your eating habits on vacation, expect changes at the other end, too. That’s why we regularly eat the stuff that @Nrdsb4 highlighted - vacation food every day, yay. Just kidding.
Unless, we’re talking about multi-vitamin, I’m anti-pill for anything unless absolutely necessary. Also, when on vacations, I actually try to turn my diet and exercise up a notch, if possible. Heck, I even try to book hotels near a good gym.
^^I research hotel gyms more extensively than any other amenities. Europeans are pretty bad in that department… best gym for the buck in Stockholm is the Sheraton.
When we go to Beirut in June to see our son, I’m planning on working out in the gym in the Qatar airport during a layover. I want to keep up my running streak! I’m also hoping to run at the gym at the American University of Beirut, because my son thinks he he can get me in there. South Africa will be a little trickier, because some of the bush camps don’t have gyms. One time, I planned to run outdoors because there was a fence around the camp. But there was a big sign at the entrance of the camp that said, “NO RUNNING.” ???
Dried prunes are the magical cure for H. Is he has issues when he travels, we find a nearby grocery and buy a small bag of them and H eats as many as desired. It works like a charm and he enjoys prunes anyway.
Bring Chia seeds and mix them in with your orange juice or other juice. A few tablespoons a day and voila. Perfection. Nice and nutty taste. Works day by day by day.
