Anyone here likes this delicious fruit?

Ever since we moved to the west coast, we found this delicious fruit (and occasionally, it is on sale so it is not expensive):

We bought a bag the other day and have almost finished it.

It seems that around this time of the year, we see it in the grocery here in California.

I think it is also sold in other state, right?

LOVE them, they are sold in Michigan in plentiful quantities. When they first started appearing, they were called “Halos” and now I am seeing more of the “Cuties” brand. They are so delicious and easy to eat

Echoing above. Love Cuties here in MI. We buy probably a carton every time we go to the grocery store and the three of us eat them in about a week.

We have them in New York, too. Delicious!

Aren’t these available everywhere ?

My favorite oranges growing up in Germany were clementines, easy to peel, no seeds and so sweet.

My kids love them as well.

On December 6th we would have St Nikolaus day and we would put boots outside and find candy, nuts and clementines in them.

We have always had them in Washington. I don’t remember when they when from mandarines to Cuties but same thing. We always had one in the toe of our stocking as kids

The real story is branding a fruit

How are Halos or Cuties different from clementines? Are they different?

I assume they’re the same. One of those things that sells better with a different name and a lot of marketing.

They are mandarins, as far as I know. It’s a fruit with a name. Period. What saintfan said. Is this another “why is this a thread” contribution?

The fruits marketed as “Cuties” change with the season. Near Christmas, they are clementines. After, they are tangos and some other varietal. They are all types of mandarins but they are slightly different. I prefer satsumas myself!

They only seemed to get popular a few years ago. Before that I don’t remember seeing Clementines at the grocery store, the closest things were tangerines, which were good but packed with seeds and kind of aggravating to eat. The Clementines became popular as a lunch box snack.

Funny enough, my roommate just came home with two boxes of cuties from his work holiday party. Apparently, no one wanted them so he happily took the leftovers lol.

When I was a child living in another country, there were much more varieties of such fruits (but almost all of them have seeds.) Some were more delicious than the Cuties, but some were not as tasty.

For the Cuties, the quality of them is not always consistent. I notice that when there are plentiful quantities, like it is now, its quality tends to be better.

More than 3 decades ago, when we were first in this country, someone told me that most Americans prefer the more traditional orange (the kind that you can not peel as easily by hands.)

I actually think either kind has its pros and cons.

I’ve been eating clementines for years. The switch to the name “cuties” is fairly recent. The clementines I buy come in a box and are usually from Spain. Cuties come in a bag and are from California. The price of clementines is usually less in the early fall.

We have purchased them around the holidays for several years. My kids like them, and they are easy to peel & eat, so I try to have them around as a healthy snack. In fact, D2 made a beeline for the kitchen after picking her up from the airport today, and I found her eating one over the sink with her coat and backpack still on.

Another favorite citrus fruit we ate growing up were blood oranges.

These are a staple in our house now by request of my husband, who finds them a convenient fruit to pack in his lunch bag for work. I eat them occasionally, although I prefer grapefruit.
