I just got mine, GW500. When I went back to check after leaving it in bright sunlight for 2 hours to charge it, part of the watch surface was stained black. For a second I thought I fried my new watch . But when I got it back inside the black stain gradually disappeared. Is this supposed to happen when you charge it?

Was the black surface on the LCD display, or on another part of the watch? If it was the LCD, don’t worry – it’s a well-known, common issue with LCDs. When they get hot they tend to turn black. This happens on some car stereo displays, too. Once they cool off they return to normal.

the display, as in where it’s supposed to be telling time.

is it fine to leave the watch out in bright sunlight for 8 hours? i mean, isn’t g-shock “indestructible”?

You really don’t have to leave it in direct sunlight. The directions say it will even charge off of regular house lights, although it will take longer. I got one for work and just wear it regularly, never left it out in light to charge - in fact, it sits in my (pitch black) locker most of the time - and my battery meter still reads “full”.

thanks :)
