Anyone intern as a Washington Mutual HIP?

Anyone intern as a Washington Mutual HIP? is it worth it? paid/unpaid?

I’m junior, I’ve worked there for a year now, paid 8 bucks an hour, not too bad. Its generally pretty boring working there, and when i came there was the 500 hour per year minimum which really streches a person out for other ecs. The branch that i work at generally treats their interns as regular tellers, depending on them for different shifts, basically do the work of regular tellers and get a 1/3 of the pay. I mean its not overly boring, through the course of the internship, which when i started was for two years (junior and senior), one can definately learn a lot of general finance related info and just a lot of info that can be used later in life when dealing with financial institutions, so all in all i would say its a pretty good learning period although sometimes it can be boring. Also, i don’t know if you’ve heard but the HIP program which has been a two year program since they started, employing two Interns a senior one (one in his second year) and a Junior one (one in his first year), is swtiching to a 1 year internship so there is only one intern at a time. The change was really becuase some interns in New York City (i live in long island) stole a lot of money, and Washington Mutual almost canceled the program. I hope thats the info u needed.

how many hours per day?..I have school till 4 and the bank closes at 5-6

Most likely u would have to work 4 days a week including saturday, Thats presuming that u work 2 hours a day and then 5 hours on saturday for a total of 12 hours a week. The bank will pretty much need u to work at least 10 hours a week during the school year and probably around 20 hours during the summer. Well u might ask that comes to a lot more than 500 hours, well not really becuase u’ll often have to do other things and will probably miss a lot of days during the year becuase of various things (for exmaple, i do ld debate and speech so during the school year i missed a lot of saturdays), additionally 500 is a minimum, that doesn’t mean that u can do 500 hours during the summer and then work an 1 hour a week during the school year becuase often they’ll need u to work during the week.
