Anyone know what a mooncake is?

If you do, I want to know how to eat it. Should i have the whole thing? Its kind of big. I called the Chinese restaurant and they gave me one for free. Do you eat them plain, or with ice cream? I didn’t think they had disserts in China since they don’t have any dirrests listed on the menu.

I just ate it last night and it was kind of gross. So if you think it is like a real cake with chocolate inside, it isn’t. I dont even know what it tasted like. It just wasn’t very good.

Not chocolate filling. I never liked myself.

Mooncake is a Chinese bakery products traditionally eaten during the Mid-Autumn Festival, one of the four most important Chinese festivals. Mooncakes are offered between friends or on family gatherings while celebrating the festival.

The thick filling usually made from lotus seed paste is surrounded by a relatively thin crust and may contain yolks from salted duck eggs.

Mooncake filling is usually very rich and is usually eaten in small bites from small wedges accompanied by Chinese tea.

I would think if you were going to give it to your friends it would at least taste good. It was ok, but not special. Do they have chocolate disserts in china? All the restraunts have disserts, but chinese restraunts only have fortune cookies, which are neat, but dont taste very good either. I had a chocolate dipped fortune cookie once and it was good.

I’m a fan of mooncakes. Some fillings are better than others, it’s not all about lotus paste. I like this sweet type with nuts with a salted egg in the middle. I wouldn’t recommend it with ice cream though…or the duran filling.

There were these white things in the middle. I thought they were nuts. Were they eggs? I don’t like eggs plain. Maybe thats why I didn’t like it. The one i got was from a chinese restrant, so i think it was the traditional kind. I was surking the net and found lots of diferent kinds, but i think the traditional is lotus. Someone said they drink it with tea. I wonder if the one i got was fresh cause it was from a restaurant in philly, but the mooncake was made in china. It didnt have any ingredients and had chinese writing on the wrapper. It might have been kind of old. Even though it didn’t taste good, im happy that i tried it cause some of my computer friends said they were good and i wanted to see if they really are. So it was a good experience even though i didn’t really like it.
