Does anyone know how low one’s EFC has to be to get federal work study or merit aid? (not NMF)

Merit aid will not be based off your EFC - Merit aid is based off your GPA, test scores, essay and EC’s.

…and is VERY rare at A&M without NMF status. Departmental money is a possiblity, but often is more available to upperclassmen.

I didn’t know merit aid was rare at A&M, my D received two scholarships from A&M, neither is huge but as a % of COA they aren’t bad.

Thanks Texasmom14. I found out with the older child that some schools require fafsa for “merit”. I am guessing that the kids with 0 EFCs might get FWS first as they should and wondering if my son would have a chance of getting it. Just wondering if they have plenty of FWS or if it is very limited. S presently has job at grocery store but will not have a car in college so I hope he can work on campus.

Chauffeur - I am not sure how abundant WS is at A&M. However, I do know that they have an excellent bus system - he may be able to get a job off campus without needing a car.
