I will hold onto my old memories. Viva la old Sound of Music!

Is this live? How did they do that transition from the house to the convent…if this is live?

Still…I do love the sets and costumes.

My personal opinion is the captain is way too young but I like him anyway.

The kids are darling. I also like the baroness.

Carrie U has a lovely voice. I give her a LOT of credit for undertaking this role. The comparisons were inevitable. I will say, her singing is far lovelier in my opinion than Mary Martin’s. It’s really not fair to compare anyone’s singing to Julie Andrews…it’s just not. She is in a very special class of singers/performers.

My 25 year old is watching it with me. She has seen only the stage productions I was in (a number of them) and the movie once. She is not enjoying this much.

This story is a classic. I don’t think that can be taken away regardless of the performers.

I think I will go find my video from my daughter’s youth theatre presentation, which was much better than this production. Then again, Taylor Swift played Maria, as an 11 year old (my daughter was a nun). Maybe I could get money for that video!

Years ago, Marie Osmond was touring in SOM and we had tickets. But she twisted her ankle (jumping on the bed!) and we saw the understudy. That girl worked her butt off because she knew the audience was furious that they weren’t seeing Marie. She did a fantastic job and got a standing ovation.

Those who turn it off are missing some great performances by the rest of the cast.

I am really enjoying it and though Carrie Underwood is not the greatest actress, her voice is really great. And she made me tear up with her reactions while Audra McDonald sang Climb Every Mountain.

They had the one set next to the other, opened the doors, and voila.

Geez…tough crowd. Who knew CC was populated with so many theater critics. I think they’re all doing an awesome job, and my whole family is thoroughly enjoying it.

Kids are wonderful, and I love the captain. I was quite moved when he began singing with the kids. I love the blonde ice queen in the movie, but I also really like this baroness. Rolf looks like he’s 35.

The transition from the house to the abbey was fantastic, and the action in the abbey was much better than her earlier stuff.

We tuned in because we were curious but are liking it enough to stick with it. I’ve never seen a stage production before so this is all new and interesting to me.

I cannot turn it off. The barronness should be sophisticated and gorgeous, and she is not. But the kids! terrific

I’m loving it. Never saw the stage play so there are new things…

this was my first Broadway play ever i loved MMartin and wanted to be a child in future plays.

We tuned in out of curiosity and are still watching. I think it is terrific considering it’s live. It takes me back to being a kid and watching the R &H production of Cinderella that was on tv once a year. I’m glad they tried this- the rest of tv is reality shows and the same old thing.

What, Reba McEntire doesn’t count? She was in the revival of Annie Get Your Gun.

So did I, even more than Julie. We have the original cast album, not the movie version.

Audra McDonald makes up for a significant number of sins - I’ll watch her in anything!

I saw Marie Osmond in that production and she was great.

To all those who were talking about Carrie Underwood sounding out of breath during “Do Re Mi”….have YOU ever tried singing and running up and down stairs at the same time??

I like Andrews the best. Haven’t seen MMartin.

Yes.

And what about Linda Rondstadt in Pirates of Penzance? She was fabulous.

Carrie Underwood is a competent actress when she is singing–natural and charming–but she becomes wooden when she has to deliver lines. She’d do well in a sung-through musical. I vote to re-cast her as the narrator in “Joseph”!

I’m enjoying it for what it is. I never would expect a live production of SOM to compare to the movie (my all time favorite), apples and oranges. Carrie’s voice is lovely and I think she is very brave to take on such a beloved role.

The kids are great.

I think the Captain’s acting is worse than Maria’s. I am enjoying Carrie’s singing though.

My biggest beef is with the sound. I know they are in an aircraft hanger, but the 8-track-like hiss that is present is awful.
