Bookworm, oh my gosh, You just brought back memories of how we’d sing, How do you solve a problem like Maria? but we’d replace it with my little girl’s name…good times.

Carrie Underwood can NOT act. She’s dreadful–absolutely awful!

And what’s with moving all of the songs to other parts of the story? The goat herder song during the thunderstorm? (Does that mean no puppet show?) My Favorite Things at the Abbey —Why not The Hills are Alive with Sound of Music? The songs are part of the story.

the kids are great

Well, husband couldn’t take the acting anymore and switched to the Muppets Christmas Carol! But I am now in the mood to get the SOM dvd out and watch it tomorrow.

jonri - that’s how the stage version is done. Different than the movie.

jonri, you are right. She cannot act. I saw her with Jimmy Fallon the other night and she couldn’t act then either.

I wish I had the DVD with me to watch. It would’ve been great for them to play the movie after this showing…

Jonri…Teri is correct. The songs are being done per the stage version…which I happen to think makes more sense.

I loved Julie Andrews in the film version, but I really would have loved to have seen her do the stage version!

I have my SOM script and score here…they are pretty true to the script.

Kids are fabulous. I think for a live TV production, it is quite good. Carrie U has a terrific voice, but I’m not sure I love her acting. Overall, this is good.

My guess is we will see it again…during a fund drive!

Glass half full: no need to compare to the original(s)!! Enjoy the simplicity of the familiar songs and plot - no need to compare every nuance!! I like to think that a new generation IS watching this and is falling in like or love with the music and the story. It doesn’t have to be perfect or match up - just be an enjoyable rendition of a Familiar story.

My 15 yo S also switched to the Muppets about a half hour ago… and I didn’t care.

I’m about to switch to the Muppets…if I didn’t care about Stephen I would. Oh, I would.

EDIT: Just switched. Carrie’s “crying” was too much for me.

You’re right…and I’ve seen the stage version! So, correction accepted. (Of course, being yours truly, I googled…)

But nothing is as bad as her acting…

Does this imply that singing on Broadway requires a higher set of skills or … talent?

Seriously!

Maria sounded out of breath to me too in one of the songs…but other than that and occasional volume fluctuation from NBC or my tv, I am loving Carrie Underwood’s voice and the kids’ performances.

Just absolutely loved when the kids just sang to the baroness, and their reactions when they heard their father start to sing. Got all teared up, again!

Still agree that Carrie’s acting is terrible. But the scenes that she’s not involved in are excellent.

Bucket lists, perhaps?

I don’t think she’s terrible! It’s LIVE in front of millions. Cut her some slack!

True, Underwood can’t act, no surprise, and since she’s the heart of the show, it drags the whole production way down. But she also has no nuance or expression in her singing–it’s all belty bombast. What a terrible idea to cast her.

I’m with you AllThis! If I was watching this with a little one by my side I’d be just thrilled to share the story with them - perfection would not be the point- memories would - and that I believe is what many of us older people are attached to - I’m pleased that some new memories of a great story and song will begin for many young ones.

The kids really are fantastic. I still love the story.

I am continuing to be blown away by the kids. Can you imagine being in their position? Having this broadcast around the world?
