Anyone not apply to a school they really wanted to apply to?

I wanted to apply to Stanford, but I knew I had nearly no chance. I already EDed to Cornell and was accepted. Stanford was my first choice my whole life up until a few months ago, when my dad and brother’s school started appealing to me.

towerpumpkin - What do you mean? What did they say that made you change your mind?

I wanted to apply to Yale (my dream school) but with my average stats, I would not have gotten in, so I just have to try even harder in college (where ever i go) and try Yale for med school.

i wanted to apply to northwestern and washington u in st louis just for the hell of it but i re considered when i imagined everyone in the admissions office laughing at my stats lol…I think ill stick to my UCs and CA privates :)

I gave my list of schools to my guidance counselor and handed out my recommendation forms to teachers in late September. After that, it was kind of set in stone, and I would have felt sheepish asking my GC and teachers to add another college. Mostly, and for all practical purposes, I’m fine with the 8 schools to which I’m applying. I stand a fighting chance at all of them and I think they would all be good “fits.” There’s a small part of me though, that still gets kind of starry eyed when I think of two schools I’m not applying to: Princeton and Columbia. They’re both sort of “Wow” schools to me, even though I can’t really see myself being accepted or attending either one. One of the reasons I like Columbia is that some people (both real and fictional) I admire very much went there. I like Princeton because, being from New Jersey, when I was little I had the impression that it was simply the best school in the world. Ah, now I feel wistful…oh well, there’s always grad school. And I must remind myself that I really do like the schools I’m applying to. :D

USC

They keep reminding me about the deadlines only after they’ve passed…

PFFFttt…

i applied to UCLA in place of it, and i SHOULDN’T have! altho i’d LOOOVE to go there, it does cost a LOT.

I realized I wanted to apply to UMich in mid-November, a little late considering the school has rolling admissions.

UC-Berkeley and UCLA are probably the only two schools I regret not applying to though. The deadline was so early, plus I don’t live in CA which makes it really tough to get into either one.

Don’t give up- theres always next year- transferring. Keep your grades up the first year of college, and try taking the new sat. Theres always that hope :)

I wanted to apply to Deep Springs just to support its ideal… But… ugh… the essays killed me and thus I fell…

i really like u of chicago… but I dont have a good math / science teacher recommendation :(

wish i had taken sat 2’s and applied to an ivy league…applied to some good private schools but no ivies

cornell, oberlin, and colgate. i had to cut down my list because sending all those scores were so expensive.

cornell, uchic, a few UK schools - parents said no. but bill would have really been something

MIT

my math scores suck

After getting in ED to a school I was so obsessed with for the last year, I am really starting to question my choice.

grxkn- that deadline is just for merit scholarships, so if you demonstrate need, you still might get money. Also, that deadline is just to have a preference in consideration. My brother didn’t apply by the early deadline and he still got a merit scholarship. Maybe he would have gotten more if he applied earlier, but it’s still possible to get a merit scholarship if you apply by the second deadline.

Wharton09, don’t worry about questioning yourself. I think it’s the whole “binding” part of the Early Decision process that makes everyone so nervous, cause I’ve done the same thing–even though there’s nowhere else I wanted to go. IMHO, it seems that people place way too much emphasis on going to this college or that one to be happy and not enough on the college experience itself. Any school comes down making the best of what you’re given, and if all else fails, transfer!

I missed Emory because the application was weird so yea

brown

the app looked like it’d be like chicago’s and take up a lot of time. really regretting it now…oh well, i already had too many reaches on my list anyway…saved my family some money, i guess…
