Anyone not apply to a school they really wanted to apply to?

I guess this topic is for those who had to let go of a school for one reason or another, though they really didn’t want to.

I fell in love with UMichigan, and it was a school I know I would have gotten into, but at the same time I didn’t think my stats were competitive enough for full scholarships. Michigan sucks with financial aid for out of state students, and I needed it bad. . .so I decided it wasn’t even worth applying. I really liked the school too. . .the school spirit, the academics, the town, everything. But the price tag was on par with top private schools, except they lacked the ability to meet students 100%.

I had to let go of Mich :frowning:

So did anyone else have to let go of a school?

<p>I’m about to, Bryn Mawr is an awesome school, but I haven’t taken SAT 2’s yet. I might take them in January, I don’t know…</p>

<p>I didn’t apply to Kenyon, Amherst or Middlebury, though I like all the schools a lot. It just came down to this: In the spring, if I were to get into these three schools and the other LACs to which I’m applying (Dartmouth, Swarthmore, Washington & Lee), that would be a whole lot of LACs to choose from. I feel comfortable considering W&L a match, and I love it dearly, so it’s not like I’m going to be out in the cold if none of the more selective schools work out; I might as well narrow the field now, and save the application fees.</p>

<p>Neobez, I’m in the same situation as you are! (Sorta). I absolutely love University of Michigan, I visited the campus last summer (I have friends who live in Ann Arbor) and completely fell in love with it. Unfortunately I’m a Canadian citizen, and UMich doesn’t give financial aid to internationals. There’s no way I can pay 25K + room and board each year for Umich, so I’ve gotta let go of that dream… :(</p>

<p>I wanted a reach school… none of mine were really “reach” perse. Stanford and MIT would have been great reaches.</p>

<p>I kinda regret not applying to Middlebury and Grinnell. Hopefully, i’ll get into Vassar, and it won’t matter…</p>

<p>I missed the deadline for Stanford, and I would have really liked to have applied… and I just found out that I have legacy there, too!</p>

<p>How could you just find out? Legacy is for parents only. They didn’t tell you?</p>

<p>Yeah… well my dad died when I was 8 and I just found out that he went to Stanford for grad school (grad school does count as legacy, right?). </p>

<p>I wanted to apply to McGill a while back but I never did. I don’t know why I didn’t apply. I also wanted to apply to Cornell as a transfer but I never did.</p>

<p>Dartmouth, but Cornell has a better bio program so I applied there instead.</p>

<p>I wanted to go to all of the schools I was going to apply to–Haverford, Grinnell, and Northwestern, but I got into Brown ED, and since that’s what I would have chosen if I’d been admitted to all 4, I’m not too sad. But a little bit sad.</p>

<p>USC. In order to have been considered for scholarships, I would’ve had to have applied by Dec. 10. Oh well. Maybe I’ll apply as a transfer in a year or two.</p>

<p>i applied early to UVa and got in, but it makes me wonder if i would have gotten into Dartmouth, Georgetown and Northwestern (my next three choices). i probably would have still chose UVa anyway, but it makes you wonder…</p>
