<p>How can you guys be sure that he’s CAPed? If he/she is CAPed, than I’m likely to be CAPed as well.</p>
<p>I am 99.9% sure I will be CAP’d. I’m not here for pity, just providing input and a different situation. Call me crazy for applying, but it’s my dream school so I did anyway:</p>

SAT: M: 610 CR: 650 W: 680; composite: 1260
AP: 1 sophomore year, 2 junior year, 4 senior year; got 4s on the two exams taken so far</p>
<p>Strong essays, average ec, 3 letters of rec. But I’m stressed beyond belief (mainly because they haven’t gotten my transcript yet, annoying me) </p>
<p>I’ve thought about CAP, and frankly, it doesn’t bother me TOO much. I live in San Antonio so of course I’d go to UTSA.</p>
<p>I too dislike the top 8% thing (not because I’m not in it), I know a lot of really smart people in my class that let themselves slip through the cracks out of laziness. I also know a lot of not-so-smart people that mainly copy their way to the top, bomb their SAT and write mediocre essays but get automatically admitted without a second glance. Holistic review may be more time-consuming, but I think that it’s a better idea. It also screws over many (of course not all) out-of-state and international students. </p>

<p>Jamtastique, I’m more or less in the same situation as you, but you can never know for sure with applications. How are your ECs?</p>
<p>I got in from the 28%, so chin up hopefuls!</p>
<p>Not as spectacular as they should be. Not spectacular at all, actually. Let’s just say that during most of high school I failed to realize how much my actions would screw me over my senior year.</p>
<p>I only submitted my application less than a week ago and I’m already freakin’ out. Looking at all the people whom I thought were shoe-ins get CAP’d isn’t helping, haha. I’m trying to get it out of my mind and just focus on working on scholarships + getting good grades this year (so far so good!) but it’s hard!</p>
<p>My parents think I’ll be fine. My mom was top 10% I believe, my dad wasn’t even top 25% but he got a 32 on his ACT and got into the school of engineering. Mind you this was what, nearly 30 years ago? Yes, 1982.</p>
<p>I applied to the college of LA (psychology bs) as my first choice and natural science (biology) as my second choice. Hopefully they slap me in there somewhere. </p>

<p>1982?? Ha, I think everybody who applied back then got accepted! Some of my classmates in engineering weren’t the brightest bulbs, to put it nicely.</p>
<p>I applied to ONE school - UT. The thought never occurred to me to apply to any other school.</p>
<p>That’s what they told me! They also go on about how much cheaper it was back then!</p>

<p>$4 per credit hour. My total tuition bill was usually around $250.</p>
<p>It seems like they would accept the other materials, but you might want to call to make sure.</p>
<p>Getting CAP’d isn’t the end of the world, either. My middle son would love that route, but it’s not available to him since he’s OOS. I don’t see any way he’ll get in, unfortunately. A great kid, but his grades aren’t strong enough.</p>
<p>Yeah, too bad prices aren’t like that anymore. My parents never started a college fund for me (didn’t start one for my older brother, so they didn’t think it would be fair to start one for me) so I have to apply for a bunch of scholarships. And unfortunately, though I only live with my mom, she technically /should/ have enough to provide me with more costs than she intends to. So financial aid won’t be as helpful as she’d like. But I digress.</p>

<p>I’m class of 2014 and I got in outside the top 10%. I was probably top ~15-20% of my class of 850, GPA around 3.1 unweighted (I made laziness an art in high school). What I had going for me was my ACT score of 32 and the various leadership positions I had in high school (football captain, student council officer, etc). I think being from a single parent/“economically disadvantaged” background helped too. I don’t even know if my essays were good or not, I assume they were since they let me in outside top 10%.</p>
<p>Basically, there’s hope for everyone who screwed around in high school! Haha.</p>
<p>Hopefully I will at least be CAP’d…UTD doesn’t sound too bad for one year…and seeing that I am a 3-year grad, it shouldn’t look too bad.</p>

ACT: 26 (first attempt…retaking in December. Aiming for 28-32)</p>

African American, diagnosed with Glycogen Storage Disease V a few months ago (not really bad…just can’t run marathons or lift weights), attend an exceptional magnet school (which will hopefully explain for my low gpa and rank), premed/EMT program…have hours and hours of clinical experience…Lifeguard for 2 years…went to England with people to people student ambassadors…and I am a 3 year grad (I am graduating as a junior)…</p>

<p>If top 50% of HGHL = 2% of Plano West, than top 100% of my school = top 10% of HGL</p>
<p>please, plano west is just slightly less competitive than highland park</p>
<p>Almost all applicants from my school who were in the first quarter got an acceptance, albeit UT “likes” my public high school in Houston.</p>

<p>I had a major freakout. The rank my counselor gave me at the beginning of the year was different than the one that was posted on my transcript. Apparently, according to other seniors, our transcripts got all wonky because of a system change at my school. Instead of 222/598, i was posted as 207/509. not a huge difference and my true rank sucks too, but I need all the help I can get! My mom had a fit. My counselor typed the corrections and faxed them to the Office of Admissions.</p>
<p>And my counselor also told me the wrong GPA, I have a 3.42, not a 3.25. Sheesh. Makes me feel slightly better.</p>

<p>Well my friend just got in not in the top ten. Our high school doesn’t rank but he is probably around top 25% and he got a 35 on the ACT. He was admitted to computer science. Hopefully my 31 ACT and top 25% get me in.</p>
<p>Sorry to bump this thread but it seems really helpful. I was just wondering how I would fare, I’m really nervous and I’m eager to get my letter. This thread has given me a little hope, and it seems OOS kids are getting accepted quite a lot. </p>

<p>My Daughter just logged in and found that she has been accepted to Architectural engineering from an Unranked private school. She was assigned top 11% by UT based on information sent from her high school. She has an 4.1 UNWEIGHTED GPA on a 4.0 scale. she made a 2170 on her SAT with a 740 in Math and a 770 on the SATII level 2 exam. We are celebrating today. We just found out!</p>
