<p>I’ve wondered that for a while as well! Take it up with the high school, I suppose, but our maximum GPA is a 4.3 for an A+ average. Here’s what I’ve found on Wikipedia concerning the matter:</p>
<p>“The A range is often treated as a special case. In most American schools, a 4.00 is regarded as perfect and the highest GPA one can achieve. Thus, an A, being the prime grade, achieves the mark of a 4.00; for the A+ mark, most schools still assign a value of 4.00, equivalent to the A mark, to prevent deviation from the standard 4.00 GPA system. However, the A+ mark, then, becomes a mark of distinction that has no impact on the student’s GPA. A few schools, however, do assign grade values of 4.33 or 4.30; but the scale is still called “4.0”, because grading scales (or “quality indices”) take their numerical names from the highest whole number.”</p>
<p>It’s relatively common to do this now, from what I’ve heard.</p>

<p>I am not in top 8% (which is this years requirement) and was accepted today into the School of Communications into the Advertising Program! (My top selection!) I’m extremely excited to have gotten into the advertising program right off the bat!</p>
<p>I won’t be attending however, as I have received a big scholarship to SMU and have been accepted into their advertising program!</p>

<p>My friend was in about the 15th percentile. He had a wide range of extracurriculars and interests, and was a very interesting kid. no major state/national accomplishments (or even citywide, I believe). 2100 SAT, he made it through Cal 1 and 2 (Very uncommon at our school) and he was ASIAN (gasp). Cockrell School of Engineering for ChemE. He sure as hell deserved it, just didn’t look spectacular on paper.</p>

<p>i had a heart attack this morning because my status is now just “We’ve received all the items needed to review your application for admission.” according to some theories, i’ve been rejected by my first choice major (COLA - psychology {BS}) and am still waiting to hear from natural sciences.</p>
<p>either way, my nerves are killing me. if you’re gonna CAP me, UT, CAP me already! i just need to know if i’m gonna be a longhorn or a roadrunner my freshman year of college.</p>
<p>Hm that’s weird because my status says the same thing… ever since I turned things in last november.</p>
<p>now mine is back to “We’ve received all the items that are required to review and process your application. The Admissions Committee is currently reviewing your application for admission. Once the Committee reaches a decision, you’ll be notified by mail and your decision will be posted on this page.”</p>
<p>times like this make me wish i tried more in school. i’m 100% sure i could be in the top 1% at my school had i worked harder. i’ve been in TAG since i was in first grade and preAP/AP since freshman year, there’s no reason i should be this low in rank! i also wish i went to a better school. i’m in judson isd in san antonio, which is recognized but not spectacular in the least bit.</p>
<p>anyway, no time for regrets now. because of my laziness i gotta sweat it out a bit. CAP won’t kill me, and it’d be easier on my mommy’s wallet.</p>
<p>that’s another thing, how will you guys be financial aid-wise? my mom is the only one providing for me (as well as my nephew) but she worked three jobs last year and made far too much for me to even qualify for a pell grant. so it looks like loans are in my future…</p>
<p>@jamtastique: Waiting is hard. No news is good news. You haven’t been told “yes” but on the other hand, you have not been told “no”. You are still in the running! Keep the faith.</p>
<p>yeah, i’m trying to be positive. but my stress keeps fluctuating. one day i won’t even care to check my status. others (like today) i’m checking every time i get near a computer!</p>
<p>my rank went up 9% and i passed up roughly 40 people this semester alone, so i hope they’ll take that into consideration. i know it doesn’t make up for my other years but i’m working my butt off this year. i even got my first job, woo hoo!</p>
<p>to turn this into a learning experience, i’ll make sure my kids never have to go through this. i’ll be on their heels about school so they don’t have to freak out like i am now!</p>

<p>We tried telling our S that he should push it a bit harder, and he regretted it when he didn’t get into Rice. He knew he could have worked harder and he knew it was his choice. </p>
<p>We are hoping S2 sees this example and works just a bit harder. We shall see.</p>
