I applied being 153/209. After fall semester this year, I rose to 132/209. I had a killer SAT and ACT, extracurricular including research, StuCo pres and numerous competitions, and, at least I believe so, my essays were solid.
This proves that rank and GPA only mean what you wish them to.</p>

<p>I was top 11.79% when I applied and I was accepted into EE in Cockrell. I got a 2010 on the SAT (710 on math and critical reading, 590 on writing). If you post good standardized test scores then you should be alright.</p>

<p>I was pretty anxious because I applied very late and my stats are not necessarily that great. Really happy but for the most part surprised, namely because many people with similar stats were CAP’d, including my best friend.</p>
<p>I’ve also noticed while many worthy candidates have been CAP’d or flat out rejected (another friend of mine was rejected and he was top 9% of his class but his test scores were lacking), quite a few kids with sub-25% class ranks are being accepted. I couldn’t be happier; it looks as if UT is approaching admission much more holistically this year. Last year was a travesty… so many applicants were rejected with 11-15% ranks even though they were brilliant everywhere else. </p>
<p>I’m digging this system under the new law. Hopefully this keeps up.</p>

<p>@Alexis: hmm, being out of state kind of hurts you…not sure though(I’m from texas)
here’s what I suggest
- take the ACT again and get it to at least a 30 if you can
- try some SAT subject tests maybe? If you think you can do well(like 700+), then it would really boost your app. My grades were low, but I got really high scores on my subject tests and I think that helped my app. (I was top 16%)
- Take more APs your senior year(It asks for your senior schedule on the app)
- Do something really different over the summer that not many people would have done in high school(i.e start a business, write articles for local newspaper, etc.). Something that will make you stand out.

<p>If you can make your app standout a little bit more, I think you have a decent shot, especially if you can get high test scores to sort of balance out your GPA/rank.</p>
<p>I got in, I was in like the 27th%, I had connections and amazing essays, IBDC, and extra cirr. For people who think grades are everything, you’re wrong.</p>
<p>Haha well grades for who doesnt have connections are pretty important.</p>
