anyone NOT like NSW?

I was just wondering how NSW is going for everyone. I’m finding it awkward and haven’t really met anyone that I love and can go “oh that’s going to be my friend for the next 4 years!” Anyone else feeling the same way, or am I alone?

From what I gather from my daughter (an NU sophmore), awkwardness is a bit of an NU specialty. Once you gain a sense of humor about it, it will get easier.

“Love” might take a few weeks or longer. You’ve got a lot of people to sift through, so find ways to have fun, and start meeting people. Keep introducing yourself, but don’t have huge expectations of each person you meet. Force yourself to get out there, but have patience. You’re part of an amazing group of people, and soon you’ll find your connections in it.

NSW in my opinion is poorly run, and is definetely an awkward time for new students here.

I didn’t enjoy NSW last year. But it gets a LOT better. You will find those people. Follow Nan’s advice and keep putting yourself out there. It’ll happen.

NSW isnt about the seminars and ice breakers during the day people. NSW was my favorite part of the year my first two years because every night there are acutally devent parties and tons of people going out. Getting involved with the night life is where you will meet people becuase you will tend to go to a bar or party or stay in if you want, with people that are more like you. First time in my life I went a week without being sober…obviously you dont have to drink or whatever, but have some fun and let loose…NSW isnt about your day to day meetings, yeah there are some useful things in those, but it is going out and meeting people that allows you truly start the college experience which i assure is way more than the classes and academics. And if you arent falling into place yet or not enjoying yourself, keep trying new things and you will find your niche

I hated NSW, but within 2 weeks I had found “my group.” It will happen- but NSW is too forced “meet everyone!” to make deep connections. Don’t worry about it.

yeah I didn’t enjoy NSW either but the rest of the year was MUCH better

or…why dont you all meet eachother hehe. I felt special today 2 guys recognized me at a CA meeting today from CC…I guess my user name sticks out  oh yea…because it is my name.

hey thanks everyone. I finally met some people I like, so things are looking up a bit.

hey asdf11, i was in that same situation. but i mean basically go check out the clubs and meet people in your hall, and basically introduce yourself to random people =D. i’ve heard that nsw is hardest for freshman and its really boring cos of the stuff that we have to do, upperclassmen say that it really is more fun for them heh
