Anyone see Bruce Springsteen?

1st concert I ever went to - and I didn’t know who he was. I went with a friend who begged me to go on a blind date and double with her and her boyfriend to this concert. We had 2nd row tickets! He played for 4 hours! I was so exhausted when it was over. Best concert I’ve ever seen and I’ve been a lifelong Bruce fan ever since. :)

I saw Bruce during the summer of 1976 in a small college gym in Pennsylvania. I was thrilled to see him and it was a great concert. I’ve never seen him live since then- I’m afraid it could never measure up to my memories of that small venue.

He still does that! I’m not sure how but I know that I often feel exhausted at the end of his concerts. He always seems like there’s no place he’d rather be, and he practically has to be dragged off the stage. I’ve been to a lot of concerts in my life but none has given me the same feeling.

outlaw, it was 3 hours and 50 minutes in Toronto. Close enough. :)

No better or worse than any other hockey arena, I suppose.

Well I’ve been to many hockey arenas!

Really want to see PJ in the 5000 seat venue in Missoula at the end of the month- maybe it can still happen.

I have bootlegs from PJ @ The Spectrum.

Amazing.

MSG was not built to be a “hockey arena”. It is a great place to see a show (I’ve been to many there.) The seats are practically vertical, not raked backward nearly as much as in other arenas I’ve been to. It’s a great place to see a hockey game, too. (even though the Rangers are my teams mortal enemy, until the Devils built a new stadium, the MSG experience was much better. I have to say the Prudential Center comes near to duplicating it.)

I’ve seen Bruce at the Meadowlands arena (whatever it was called those years–Byrne, Continental, etc), Giants Stadium, Chrysler Arena, MSG, and the old Carleton Theater. Phenomenal every time.

Does 38ish yrs ago at Brookdale Community College count? :)

I saw him at Rutgers in the early 70s, when he was the second behind a band we all loved called Heavy Trucking. We had no idea who he was, couldn’t understand his lyrics and he just seemed to sing about cars. We saw him this past April on the early part of this tour. It was a tremendous show. But I was equally amazed by the fanatic fans. The guy sitting next to me had seen him 350 times!

Sorry, I will disagree.
When the current Garden was built in 1968 to replace the previous MSG at Eighth Avenue and 50th Street, the Rangers were an original tenant.
The Garden was built as a multi-purpose arena to include basketball, the circus, horse shows and … hockey.

Bruce @ Wrigley field.

I saw Bruce Springsteen at University of Michigan. He had just made the cover of Time Magazine. Back then they were comparing him to Bob Dylan so I was surprised at how much he rocked. It was his birthday. Must have been 1974, or 75. I was an usher. We were told to be very strict on cigarette smokers because tobacco continued to burn if dropped and was a fire hazard. Other smoking products were not a problem.

Saw the Boss in 1980 at The Aud in Buffalo while in medical School! He played 31/2 hrs and was great! Not really a big fan ( more of a McCartney/Beatles & Clapton fan). I went on an invite . I appreciate great music and showmanship! He gives both. He also pulled a young girl from the audience! Clarence and Max were great too!

Just got tickets this morning to his October concert in Rochester NY. Tickets sold out in minutes. I’ve been fortunate to see him many times over the years. The first time was in a small venue in NJ in '76 or '77. H and I took S (now 22) to his first Springsteen concert when he was 13. He always puts on a great show! Will miss Clarence.

I saw him at RFK in DC (now Fed Ex Field) in August 1985. My neighbor had tickets and offered to take me. What a great concert! I saw him again in May 2006 at Nissan Pavilion. It was his Seeger Sessions Tour. He didn’t play one single song he’s well known for…nada, nip, niltch. Two and a half hours of We Shall Overcome and Old Dan Tucker. Now I can appreciate something different, but come on, throw us a bone! Would it kill you to toss your loyal fans Thunder Road? Jungleland? Your choice Bruce, just give us something. Nope.

He’s playing at my sons university in October (close enough to go). Still debating. ;)

Maybe he thought the hardcore fans wanted something different.
I am a big Pearl Jam fan, but two of my top five shows featured Eddie Vedder on ukeleles with Glen Hansard ( the Frames) at Benaroya Hall. ( I also traveled to Detroit to see Eddie & Glen, but the crowd was so rowdy it doesn’t make my top five)
but Eddie did out bring his acoustic guitar to play Porch.

I wouldn’t mind seeing another Guthrie tribute.

He must be in Chicago… like right now. My sister is posting live pics on fb. :D

EK4 - I did say I could appreciate something different. It was just disappointing not to hear a single classic, that’s all. You’d figure one or two.

Blueiguana, we also saw Bruce in 2006 on the Seeger Sessions Tour. I agree with you completely. The concert was fun, but we left feeling slightly empty and a little gypped.

My NJ son- an avid Bruce fan- attended his first Bruce concert last night at Wrigley Rain started one hour into concert but that didn’t stop the show- 3 hrs!
