I just wondered if anyone else saw it.
Yes, Is Hudson U suppose to be Columbia?
D graduated HS in 2008 and college in 2012. I guess I have amnesia, because I don’t remember knowing any parent in RL or on CC being desperate enough to contemplate using sex to gain an admit for their D or S into a prestigious college.
Hudson is a composite of many different universities within NYC that regularly appears in the Law & Order universe. However, Wiki says that they have shown the location of Hudson University on a map before and it is actually located where Yeshiva University is. It’s actually filmed at several different colleges in NYC.
Hudson is also the name of the fictional college in the DC Comics universe, but they aren’t the same
Yeah, I can’t imagine being that desperate to send your kid to Hudson to sleep with the admissions officer. With the student’s grades (3.9 gpa/2250 SAT–roughly equivalent to a 34 ACT or 1540 new SAT), even if he can’t get into Hudson, he’ll get into a pretty good school.
Hudson U is a hotbed of teen sex, frat and sorority hazing, underage drinking and drugging, gambling rings, theft, prostitution and the like and it has what might be the highest per capita murder rate by and of students and teachers at any school in the USA. I wouldn’t sent my child there on a full scholarship, lol!
Can you tell that I am huge fan of the show, which my H (who is dyslexic) long ago retitled “Law and Order: SUV.”
This week’s episode of the Olympic-caliber pole vaulting wife and mom with undiagnosed bi-polar disorder who likes to unwind from stress as a weekend prostitute reminded me of Suzy Favor Hamilton.
The stories on SVU are always over the top, including this one about the mom sleeping with the supposed admissions director. I’ve been a fan from the beginning but it has gone downhill, in my opinion, since Olivia took over the unit.
Oh techmom, just giggled out loud. My dyslexic (?) husband used to call CCD (Catholic class for kids who don’t go to Catholic school) “CDC”. No, our child was not attending classes at the Center for Disease Control. ![]()
For anyone who didn’t see the episode in question, here is a brief summary:
A woman is seduced by a man whom she believes to be in charge of admissions at the fictional Hudson University. He’s actually a security guard at the college. They eventually catch him, but he freely admits to telling that lie to that woman and at least 4 other women who were trying to get their kid into Hudson University.
They eventually decide to charge him with rape, because the woman consented to have sex with the head of admissions of Hudson, not with a security guard at Hudson. His defense was that she consented to have sex with him, he just lied as to who he was, which makes him scum, but not a criminal.
What was the outcome? I would guess he’s scum, not a criminal.
Judge thought it shouldn’t be a crime. Made it apparent that if the jury came back with a conviction he might overturn it and/or let the guy walk at sentencing. Pleas bargain worked out while the jury was out. Accused plead guilty to some sort of misdemeanor fraud --not sexual assault.
Kid of victim very upset by mother’s testimony and press coverage and kills himself.
Thing is…I’ve less confident than the rest of you that nobody has ever tried this. I don’t think if someone did, (s)he would admit it on CC or IRL.
Wow, not a very uplifting show I guess. I’ve never watched this show. Crazy storyline.
The victim may have been a CC regular. She realized the guy was a fraud when he misstated the size of Hudson’s endowment.
Yes!
It was really an episode about how crazy college admissions has become. Only a matter of time before they did something like it, IMO.
