The freezer shelves & drawers always seemed a little ‘off’ and unstable, sometimes dropping down when filled with food. Never bothered while it was under warranty, and now, totally aggravated, took everything out, and see that every shelf and drawer is just a smidge too narrow to sit properly on the 1/4 inch holders on each side wall. So when empty, they behave, but when filled, they just get pushed down off the side ‘holders’

After innumerable calls to GE, where all they wanted to do was sell me replacement drawers & shelves @ $120 apiece I have decided that I need to come up with a creative solution, by rigging something to extend the width of the shelves/drawers. These are made of the plastic coated wire.

I have bought several little hardware parts and tried attaching them to the wire edges of the drawers. But it’s not working. Any creative ideas?

Have plexiglass cut the correct width and depth of the shelves. Place too-narrow shelves on top of the plexiglass ones.

Yes, that can work for the 2 shelves. But I have 3 drawers, and simply cannot come up with something that will work.

The inside walls are made of this molded plastic, so not much can be done to extend the little ledges. The fix would have to be related to the mesh drawers that would add just that missing 1/4 inch.

Thank you GE!!!

How old is this side by side by GE? Ours is about 8-10 years old, and just within the last 6 months we started having problems getting water from the dispenser. We finally figured out the water line was freezing, and if we left the freezer door open a minute, it took care of it for awhile. Plus we are ALWAYS having trouble getting the ice to dispense properly. We also hate GE and will never buy another appliance from them.

We are not having the problems with the freezer shelves, which is why I asked how old yours was. It seems other people with a GE that is about 10 years old has the same problems with ice that we do, so possibly the specific problems vary by year.
