My sister got me 6 months of Birchbox for my birthday. My first package is on the way. Just wondering what to expect! Looks fun, but I’m a drugstore/Ulta makeup girl so doubtful I will purchase any unless I really love them.
Seems fun though!

I got a 3-month subscription for my D last year. She loved it. She was able to customize for her skin tone and type and though she didn’t love everything, really did like a lot of the products. Her favorite was a hair conditioner that she would buy if she didn’t also like what she was already using. Keep in mind that the products are mostly small sample sizes. And yes, it’s always fun to play with beauty products!
My D who is 27 and not a heavy make up wearer (but some) LOVES her Birchbox subscription. She has raved about many of the products - especially some of the skin care and hair products (she is a thick, way, curly girl). She keeps a special bowl in her bathroom for her favorite products and does the monthly reviews to earn points (for purchasing fuller sized products).
I just gifted a subscription to my D who turned 19 this week. She is someone who will go online and also take advantage of some customization and will review products to earn points.
I am not a make up person myself but have to be curious about what they would send me vs. what they send the 20-somethings!
I received a 6 month subscription as a gift. At first I thought “What a waste - paying to get samples?” But I have actually loved it. I’ve gotten some really good products that I never would have thought to try and now would buy full sized versions. I also love the boxes that they come in (I’m weird that way…I love a pretty box!
) Thanks for the reminder @abasket about doing online reviews for points - I never remember that!
My D gave me a six month subscription to Birchbox for Christmas. I enjoyed receiving the sample products. My D said that when you purchase you could specify types of products–she specified anti-aging (youth!). I liked quite a few products and even purchased one. If you arent into or dont care about make-up/skin products this probably isnt for you. If you like these products, it is a great way to try them without spending huge amounts of money.
Has anyone ordered products after trying them in the box? If yes, from Birchbox or elsewhere? Or is it just for getting samples?
You can order products in full size from Birchbox or anywhere you can find them afterwards! You earn “points” that turn into dollars that you can use to purchase products from Birchbox by reviewing your received sample products, referring friends, buying full size products, etc. (if I understand it right!)
After considering birchbox (which my daughter had received from her sister as a three month trial last year) I chose instead Boxycharm - which to her is much preferred over birchbox. Boxycharm provides full size products and most of the products are pretty high quality but still not your every day item. It didn’t seem that much more per month than birchbox - I think we are paying $21 per month for products worth this month about $120, but we also did it as a 6 month gift for her as it would be too pricey (and too much makeup IMO) as an ongoing thing. There are a few others similar to Boxycharm with full sized products but this one got the best reviews and she’s on her 5 box and absolutely loves it.
