Anyone take the online test? Is it mandatory before orientation? How hard/easy is it? What does it determine overall?

I just took the online test yesterday, it’s recommended that you do it before orientation so they’ll know which classes to put you it.
as for difficulty, i found the math to be okay, if you already took calculus or pre-cal, you should do fine on the math section.
the chem part i thought was pretty easy, there wasnt anything too hard.
reviewing a little bit before the test would help as will taking the practice math test since the practice math test and the real test have fairly similar questions with different numbers

Cant you look up stuff online? I havent taken chem since 2 years ago…=/

yeah you can but if you do too well, they will put you in a higher chem class, which you might not be able to handle
just review some chem stuff and you shouldn’t have too much trouble

You could look up stuff online but why would you? You’re just screwing yourself over if you don’t know the material when you actually go to that higher class that you shouldn’t be in. The assessment test is there for a reason and to bypass this crucial tool in placement is to put your academic career at risk which will not to mention screw up the rest of your future hopes if you cannot achieve the GPA you desire.

I honestly don’t look at it to be somewhat of a mark of shame being placed in a lower division course rather than a higher division one. This isn’t high school anymore where simplistic ideologies about appearance and perceived intelligence rule supreme. Honestly, who really gives a damn if you’re in WRI 1 instead of WRI 10? If other people (besides your family) care about the classes you’re taking they should really reevaluate their way of thought and get a life.

Also, although this may be a little harsh for simply looking up information online, cheating will result in your expulsion. It may not be today, not be the first time you cheat, but it will happen eventually if you don’t stop cheating (I’m not talking about you personally, just something to keep in mind). It’s best to get rid of that “well, I haven’t done it in a while so I can look” mentality early since looking facts up online for an online test may lead to copying a friend’s midterm paper which would lead you out the door if caught. I took AP Biology two years ago, does that make it acceptable to look up information that would skew the integrity of my test? This isn’t just another letter grade on a report card. Your actions translate to the type of person you are and the type of person you will end up becoming after college.

Oh, and I’m pretty sure they’re timed anyway. Spending 2 hours on something that took most 45 minutes may raise eyebrows, especially if you enter the class without absolutely any knowledge of the course material.

Simply put, yes you can look up information online, cheater. ;]

LOL Thanks for being a dick >_>
I’m planning to review for chem (Is it really general?) starting today and take it by the end of the weekend. Math shouldn’t be a problem though hm. Thanks for the answers though haha

My AP scores also were not sent to my house, what should I do? I emailed UCM but they are not responding… I sent everything in except the AP scores!

LOL Thanks for being mature about it. T_T
I’d rather be hard on your now than when you’re gone because of something stupid. Sorry, I’m a dick so I deal out tough love, even if it causes a pain in the ass. ;]

Anyways, if your AP scores weren’t sent to your house, they probably weren’t sent to Merced either so contacting UCM would be pointless. Your score report comes from the college board so getting in touch with them asap would probably be your best bet.

At orientation, you are allowed to show your AP score report to your adviser so you can automatically be exempt from certain courses. If you took AP Chem or AP Calc in the past and passed by UCM’s standards, usually a 3 or 4 score, you are automatically exempt so there would be no need for you to take the placement exams.

Keep it clean and stay off Wikipedia…it’s not right anyway. :]
